lots of questions, but looking forward to the 15th. hope you can make it down. good chance for the mac to have a great night.
It appears that the BG/Miami winner will win the East and the NIU/UT winner will take the West.
We're a ways from that. Beating UT (even on our field) is a major challenge facing us.
Agreed, but I don't see Akron beating OU. With a BG win over Miami and an OU win over Akron, I think we would clinch the east on the 15th. If we lose, then it would probably be Miami versus OU for the east title the following week.

Miami was a big game for the Falcons even back in the 40s/50s. Winning a game against them was like being present to see the three wise men come from the East --- a miracle. If Omar is ready on the 15th it would be my guess that we can at least stay with them offensively. If we had any kind of defense, i.e., t he kind that is consistent and doesn't let the big play get by them, I'd predict a victory for BG. Otherwise, it will be a toss-up. Our defensive guys are simply too slow to keep the Miami running game in check. ---- Conversily, if Omar is not ready, then it could be another long night. Turner is gonna be great, but he would need something more than the 105 yds he got against Kent State to even come close. Miami's defense will be a lot tougher than Kent's. In fact, the defenses in general have caught up to the spread offense, and even Omar was having more trouble than usual finding the open receiver in the last game that I saw him play. For Turner, it seems almost impossible.

That's right. If Akron loses and we win, we have the East the UT doesn't count.

My three keys to trying to beat Miami are this.

1. Have an Omar Jacobs that is ready and able to play. I don't think we have a shot without him. Sorry, I just don't.

2. We must pressure Betts all game long, either with lour D-line getting penetration or by blitzing him. If we let him sit back there with time and little pressure, he'll pick us apart with passes to Nance and Robinson all game long. Our "bend but don't break" defense will not work against Miami, they will torch us with it. If we thought WMU's Hiller looked good against is, Betts could look like....well....Omar Jacobs! We've got to change things up.

3. Wrap up Murphy their RB. He's one of those short, quick, elusive RBs like NIU's Wolfe and Wisconsin's Calhoun that gets lots behind their big O-line and then finds big chunks of running room on us.
GO BG!!!
