I'll admit that I didn't see Turner's high school highlight reel, so I cannot make a fair comparison having only seen him against collegiate competition. What I DO know is that AT still looks VERY small to me when he's on the field, and this Nate Davis kid looks like a rock at about 6'3 225-230.

What made me so impressed was his arm strength and playmaking ability. The guy has an absolute cannon. There was a clip of him throwing off his back foot a pass 45 yards downfield to a guy on a post route. There were also many clips of him throwing across his body and hitting guys. He'd roll to the right and throw a dart to a guy on the other side of the left hash mark. Seeing those plays it's scary that they could easily get picked against a D1A defense, nobody should make those throws, but the fact that he can make them in HS makes it pretty clear he's got the arm strength he needs. He also threw a LOT of passes on the run in these films, and it seems to be pretty common in our offense for the QB to roll and throw towards the sideline.

Hard to tell from highlight videos, but the scouts also list his intangibles & leadership as a plus, always good for a QB.

Scout says, "could be the most talented signal-caller in the Midwest." Apparently the only reason why he hasn't garnered a lot more interest is because he wanted to play college hoops instead of (or as well as) football. He has since decided to stick solely with football, but many of the big time programs are already looking elsewhere.

I'm not saying we NEED to get another QB this year, because we've already got Sheehan. However, from all accounts this kid is clearly a better prospect than Sheehand, and he would be the crown jewel of our recruiting class. Plus you can never have too many QB prospects waiting in the wings, because you just don't know when one of your top name guys just doesn't pan out.

Scout.com also has a few other 2 and 3 star type players popping up on our list. A lot of them are guys with offers from us, but list their favorites as OSU, UM, ND, and Pitt or something like that. Unfortunately for them, they don't have offers from any of those schools. Seems like we're in on a number of kids who have offers from Cincy, BG, Toledo, and Miami. If we can pull our fair share out of those kids I think we could end up with one of the better classes in the MAC.

From the looks of it Nate Davis, if he ends up in the MAC, could be the best recruit the conference gets this year. EMU is on a guy who's ranked higher (the QB from Glenville), but he's got offers from MSU, Iowa, etc, I don't see him ending up at Eastern, who is the only MAC team on his list.

The notable absence of the letter "K" from that post concerns me a bit.

There's a few different images of Mr. Davis scattered throughout the thread.

I am all for adding the best players possible. If it happens to come in the shape of Nate Davis I still don't expect him to beat out Turner.

Who cares if he beats out AT. College football is a game of talent and depth. I remember his first year, UM said that Marshall was just loaded, and that was the model for our program. We needs depth at every position to win.

Nate Davis lives to see another day as he brings Bellaire to the state semifinals in D-5 this weekend.

Here's some more info about Texan Sean Hakes.... The stuff about BG and other options is at the bottom.

Looks like we're trying to sign more than one QB.... I like the idea of bringing guys in to compete for spots right away. The Josh-Omar-AT lineage is nice, but it seems like we rely on sucession at QB (like royalty) rather than throwing a few guys out there to see who can emerge.

I prefer to see healthy competition....

Here's a video link from the above thread....(apparently compiled by his brother) The kid's a lefty...but he sure seems to throw a nice ball and he looks very comfortable throwing on the move.

I wondered what all the traffic was for. I wish I would have known he was playin, I would have gone and done some scouting.

If we do we should be back up the next year anyway. Another thing I noticed that I had not thought about was that a 2008 senior line of Schaefer, Briggs, Davis and Curtis could be very very nice.
One small detail - Briggs has been moved to LB. I like the idea of Winovich and Briggs at LB next year.
If this is true I like as well. :D We need his size and speed at Lb. I though he was still in the DE rotation.

Briggs is playing DE...I think they stand him up and move him around a lot though.

He made a pretty incredible, though largely unnoticed, play in the second qtr against Miami. He was rushing from the end and Betts set up a screen to Murhpy. Betts floated the ball over Diyral's head, but Briggs still turned back upfield and caught Murphy from behind before he was able to get the first down.

I had to run the play back a few times to make sure I had actually seen what I thought...our 220 LB DE caught the 185 speedster even though he spotted him a five yard head start.

It's great having that kind of athleticism on the filed because it's something the offense has a difficult time planning for.

Flipper,

Other than the bad snaps, that was one play that particularly stuck out to me as well, as I sat through the onslaught of the rain in the first half. Briggs is really coming on and only played a year or two or "organized" football before coming to BG.
