There are only 2 teams in the MAC left with grass and I'm proud to say that BG is one of them. The only improvement I would like done to the actual field is like what Purdue has. I'm not sure the exact specifications they have on their field, but i know they have a layered system for irrigation and it allows the field to be completely flat without having to have the hump in the middle like our field. Screw turf!!!!

I believe are home football jerseys are orange. Having orange jerseys running around on an orange field would be hard to watch. I love orange, don't get me wrong, but for the first time in my life, I think having an orange field might over do it. What I hate most about all the turf fields I've been on is that they have these little rubber dots that get in your shoes and piss you off. I rather just keep the grass and find some way to keep it in great shape all through the season!

Well, I remember last year just before the NIU game that the Gameday crew was sitting in the endzone and couldn't say enough good about our grass. They were talking about how lush and green it was, and I those guys know their stuff, and have seen a ton of fields. Personally, I love seeing the grass, and think that its the best for anyone. Only time that I hate it, is when I'm marching on it with the band, and you're supposed to make crisp steps and turns when its muddy. Sorry, it doesnt happen.
ANYWAY, I believe that shortly after Boise St. installed the Smurf Turf, the NCAA outlawed the use of "other colored" fields, fearing every school doing something like that. Could you imagine Tennessee installing that checkerboard over the whole field? Boise St. got grandfathered in, and I don't see it going anywhere anytime soon. Jeff

Ya know what, lets just say screw the grass too. Why not just have permanent mud instead of grass? I think that's the way to go because we would still have a BG colored field. The lines could easily be replaced with orange clay. Just think...brown mud, orange clay! What else could we want?!bacn3 wrote:do we play basketball on carpet?? than why would we not play football on grass???? come on guys this is football!!!
Well, ya know, some of these posters are college students and I didn't want them to get the wrong idea!!!Falconfreak90 wrote:Sheese BG Fan....are you watching a Cheech and Chong movie marathon this weekend?BGFan wrote:Grass, all grass, and nothing but grass (the green stuff), so help me God. If the cows can't eat, you shouldn't play on it.
Field turf is "nice, and looks clean"
It also causes less knee and ankle blowouts than the old AstroTurf, BUT having played soccer on the crap I can say you get more elbow and shoulder injuries on it becuse it is slick and although it gives when you plant it tends to send you down easier.
Schoeni's crew does an amazing job with the equipment and funding they get.
