Toledo TD trumps Bowling Green FG for victory in 2OT

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/recap?gameId=253260189

Gradkowski's TD pass caps Rockets' 582 yards of offense

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (AP) -- Bruce Gradkowski threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Chris Hopkins in the second overtime to lift Toledo to a 44-41 victory over Bowling Green on Tuesday night.

Gradkowski also connected with Hopkins for a 3-yard TD pass with 1:43 left to tie it at 31 for the Rockets (8-3, 6-2 Mid-American Conference), who finished with 582 yards of offense.

Trinity Dawson, who had 170 yards rushing and two touchdowns, ran 2 yards to score in overtime to put Toledo in front 38-31. Bowling Green responded with Omar Jacobs' 25-yard TD pass to Steve Sanders.

After Joe Timchencko kicked a 37-yard field goal to give the Falcons a 41-38 lead, Dawson ran 3 yards to the Bowling Green 22-yard line. Gradkowski threw an incomplete pass before he found Hopkins for the game-winner.

Jacobs completed 25 of 43 passes for 315 yards and three touchdowns for the Falcons (6-5, 5-3), who dropped into a tie with Akron and Miami of Ohio for the top spot in the MAC East. P.J. Pope had 23 carries for 131 yards.

Steve Odom had 10 catches for 146 yards and a touchdown for the Rockets.

The matchup for the MAC championship game will be determined when Northern Illinois meets Western Michigan on Wednesday.

If the Huskies beat the Broncos, the Zips will face Northern Illinois in the championship based on their 24-14 victory over Bowling Green on Oct. 29.

If Western Michigan wins, the Falcons will take on the Rockets in the final because Bowling Green's opponents from the West Division would have a better conference winning percentage than Akron's crossover opponents.

The RedHawks can't advance to the conference championship game because they lose tiebreakers to the Falcons and Zips.

The third down number is painful.

BG was only 5 of 13.

Dawson is a beast. But Pope rolled up 131 yards, averaging 5.7 yards and Lane averaged 5.2.

Yeah, Pope and Lane were effective, but I felt like we abandoned the running game in the second half a little bit.

I thought TU did better than that on third down.

1 stat that might not be in the final write up, but critical to the tie at end of regulation........

(2) drives by Toledo extended when making penalties. roughing the kicker, and that bogus hit in the secondary

Was this in reference to the 2005 UT game, or the 2004 UT game?

I was the one who said it, and I meant this year. We'd race down the field running the ball, and then throw three incomplete passes.

These were HUGE. I know the defense was not successful stopping UT, but they came out and got stops in the 3rd quarter and everytime it ended with a huge penalty with both being extremely questionable. The hit by Mayberry in the secondary was a totally legal darn good hit and one of the worst calls I have ever seen.

Even more disappointing is Brandon's reaction to bad calls. He stands there like a deer in the headlights. What about showing some emotions and yelling at the officials for once? I know it doesn't change the call, but sometimes it can prevent the bad calls from continuing. Sometimes it can spark your players to dig in and stop 'em again.

Yeah, but when they didn't convert on 3rd, they did a couple times on 4th... I'm guessing you're just combining those in your head.
