GC had Clawson in mind as a possible replacement long before he shitcanned Brandon
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: Coaching Carousel: Any Clawson rumors
What I mean is for us as fans to be coming up with a successor list. I know ADs have one in their pocket at all times ... for a great example of that take a loot at UC's hiring of Tuberville.

Barring a complete meltdown we have one more year with Coach Clawson. Win the MAC (at least get another bowl) and will wish Coach only the best. Will enjoy the remainder of this season and next. Great to see at least one of our 3 major programs succeeding! (although i do love women's hoops too)
Re: Coaching Carousel: Any Clawson rumors
Your definition of success and mine aren't quite the same. Clawson had a good year this season, but not a successful one. No goal was reached that I'm aware of. They didn't beat Toledo and they didn't win their division or get to the MAC title game.ZuluWarrior wrote:Barring a complete meltdown we have one more year with Coach Clawson. Yes, they got to a bowl game, but that's probably the least important of the team goals that the coaches and players set for themselves.
They had a nice year -- but I bet if you asked them, they wouldn't call it a successful one. They want to meet those goals they set for themselves more than we want them to.
Hopefully, Clawson is able to do that next year.

The only quality win we had this year was against an Ohio team on the downswing.. Other than that we racked up 7 wins against an easy schedule.

Re: Coaching Carousel: Any Clawson rumors
FIU and now Nevada are the openings in college football right now.
Marrone from Syracuse has been a name that I have heard as a possible pro coaching candidate. Chip Kelly as well. I could see Clawson interested in a Syracuse job.

Re: Coaching Carousel: Any Clawson rumors
Quick notes on these openings and potential openings ...
FIU is supposedly very interested in Danny Hope, fired from Purdue. Hope is from Florida, hired some Florida folks at Purdue, recruited heavily in Florida, and coached what I call the best MAC team in the Big 10. He put together a quick and undersized offense that could put up big numbers against MAC and other mid major conference defenses but couldn't do a thing against the Big Ten defenses. He would be a good fit at FIU. They pay surprisingly well.
Nevada had Chris Ault as a head coach for about as long as they've had football. He ran a crisp, clean program. I have to think they would hire from within to keep some consistency.
Doug Marrone has an NFL background but he's a Syracuse alum. He knows the pressure given to NFL coaches, and also the pay, so I would think to get him to leave his alma mater, a program headed to the ACC very soon, it would take the absolute right situation.
If .. however ... Syracuse were to open, I could definitely see Clawson being interested in that job. I believe he has coached at Buffalo, plus some FCS schools in that region where Syracuse is the big dog. However, if that job were to open, I bet they would try for a bigger hire, or perhaps go the NFL route again. They've gone the NFL route for the past two head coaches, and Syracuse is a good enough program to be able to pull a surprising big hire, like Arkansas and Cincinnati have done. Even though Clawson is a great coach, I don't really think he would be on a short list should Marrone leave for the big money and job insecurity of the NFL.
And if Chip Kelly leaves Oregon, that's a sign that the NCAA sanctions hammer is about to hit and hit hard. Just like Pete Carroll leaving USC after the 2009 season.
And another note ... supposedly Bill O'Brien is on a lot of NFL short lists. It would be a total smack in the face to the Penn State folks if he were to leave, given all he has done for PSU so far and the direction he is leading the program even with all of the sanctions. If, however, he were to leave, I think PSU would have a really, really hard time making another big hire because that's a sign nobody wants anything to do with the mess there. Too bad because it's an opportunity to build a program and a culture from scratch where any success would be greatly appreciated. If O'Brien in fact bolts for the NFL, I wouldn't be shocked if both Clawson and Campbell are on the short list there.

I think there is a real possibility that clawson gets serious consideration at Syracuse .. Unless they go the nfl coordinator route I think it may happen

FYI ... Here's an article from the Richmond Times Dispatch on Coach Clawson. Pretty consistent pattern so far...

Re: Coaching Carousel: Any Clawson rumors
Every single name that's showed up thus far on footballscoop.com for the Syracuse job has been an NFL guy. Combine that with 'Cuse going the NFL route the last two times, I think it's highly highly likely they do it again.

Football scoop.com is the worst place to get your info.. They are went on every hire.. Most names that show up on the scoop are floated by agents looking to get their names out there.. The guys who are being Interviewed are rarely out in public..
