I hate to admit it but the better team won and if we played again I'd expect the same kind of result. They were better in nearly all phases of the game. We know how good it feels to beat Power Five teams, and I'm guessing it feels similar for an FCS team to beat a Group of Five program. Well done.
Absolutely. SD has some nice players and that #6 WR is only a Frosh. Their QB is gutsy and plays hard. SD is a solid team and I don't care if they are FCS. Congrats to them on a fine effort.
Today was one of the worst games I've ever seen a BG team play. The penalties, the turnovers, the trash talking to the SD players down 21-3? Really? That was the most disappointing thing for me.
Hats off to Jake Suder, who had a career day at the Doyt. And Joe D had a nice game punting....
Man we have a long, long way to go.

BGSU-12 TIME MAC CHAMPION
FALCON FOOTBALL ROCKS!
I said earlier in this thread that I believed Mike Jinks was paying for the sins of Dino Babers. That might have been a bit too tough on Babers. Even if Babers was a great recruiter (and I don't see a whole lot of evidence of that given the way these teams are now playing), we still lost a lot of ground on each of our championship years -- once when Clawson left and Babers had to pick up the pieces, and once when Babers left and Jinks had to put together the pieces.
More than anything, I think this team is hurting because of failures during those recruiting seasons. (And even more so if Babers compounded the problem by whiffing on recruiting after his first full season of BGSU football.) For example, the offensive line play is clearly not what we are accustomed to here at BGSU. While I suppose one possibility is that Stephen Hamby doesn't know how to teach those kids, we also know that they are really thin on the line right now. It seems to me this lack of depth may be a bigger issue. In Year 2, I'm not sure we should blame Mike Jinks for that.
If we don't see improvement by this time next year, I may be ready to jump out of a window with many of you. I'm not there. In fact, I see some signs that this bunch can coach. After the Coyotes jumped out to a big lead, the defense made some adjustments and basically won the rest of the football game after that, despite some terrible miscues on special teams that gave South Dakota some very short fields. So that was a positive.
Jinks seems to be recruiting well. I think this will get better. But it will take time.
Schad...looking back...which is pointless now... hiring a guy with no real college coaching experience to do the type of rebuild you outlined was foolish. Jinks may someday become a decent college coach but our program never should have been turned over to a low floor/high ceiling coach who didn't gave the sense to hire a couple of old school coaches to help him learn. We needed an experienced FCS HC or FBS asst.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Schaden, Jinks is our coach and you need to accept that and get behind the guy. We cannot change this, but we can hope that he continues to learn and grow as a coach. I am sure he is doing his best to get a win. Lets face it South Dakota has a nice play maker in their quarterback and a solid defensive line that we could do nothing with. They controlled what they wanted Morgan to get and shut him down. Yes, Morgan did not have a stellar game again, but play calling was also not the greatest. We could have cut back on the deep throws, but that will be an adjustment coming I' m sure. I'm not sure if Morgan should have been evaluated for a concussion after taking that monster hit.
Football is a game of adjustments, momentum and opportunities and we had neither yesterday.
Defense played well in my viewpoint. 1 long ball for 80 plus yards, Jackson tripped after hitting the receiver. Third down pass plays (3) caught by the tailback coming out of the back field. Those plays were not the fault of our secondary, but our linebackers who had coverage, but just didn't make the play on the ball. The offense just made a better play and that happens in football. Take those four plays away and we hold them to 150 yards passing. So their is an upside with our defense. I am confident once Morgan and the offense start clicking the defense will play at an even higher level.
Special teams has to get better and will. Sometimes the better team wins and that happened yesterday.
I still say we are in a great position to win the MAC East. We just need to get a win in the next two games. 2-2 or 1-3 before MAC play and we will be playoff bounds.
A positive attitude goes a long way fellows!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was listening on the radio and had to shut it off. I watched the replay on ESPN3 this morning. A few observations:
1. When did our returners get so dumb? I cannot believe we had two muffed kick/punt returns.
2. How did we manage to never get pass interference calls in our favor? They had the receivers' arms held down and there was no flag? Amazing. This was the 2nd week where we didn't get those calls.
3. Deep passes only work when the receivers know how to catch and when the refs are willing to throw a flag for interference. When we weren't getting those calls and the receivers no longer caught the balls, we needed to go for shorter, higher-percentage throws.
4. Is there a sub for Ryan Hunter (#68)? How many costly penalties did he have? Off the top of my head, I seem to remember 2 or 3 holding penalties and 2 "illegal use of hands: hands to the face" penalties. But, if he's not getting a flag, he's letting his guy kill the quarterback. He's a senior and has earned his spot, but he's killing us. Time to bench him and put in someone else, ANYONE else.
All of that said, I'm looking forward to watching this team gel this year. I think we have a few wins in our future this year, and I hope one of them is against UT. Next year, we'll have more of the Babers riff-raff out of there and hopefully we'll see a better, more disciplined team.

I think is spot on, I could not believe the non calls on the pass interference. The refs called two on their opening drive, which is fine, but that should set the tone that it will be tightly called. Except it wasn't!! Everyone I was sitting around at the game was dumbfounded about it. When you watched the replay, did they get a good view of the incomplete pass call that was reviewed near the goal line? From my seat I assumed it was a touchdown, if not being down at the one
I don't want to believe that our football program really does suck this much just 21 months after winning our 2nd MAC Championship in 3 seasons...so I'll fall back on my alternative explanation.
The family weekend jinx struck again.
We didn't win a single game on family weekend from 2005-2011. Only years I recall winning since that bad run is 2012 and 2015...maybe 2013 but I could swear that was when we played Toledo.
