To summarize, football is the only thing saving "the blacks" and without it all hell will break loose. Did that help? Care to defend this?
This guy has posted some pretty questionable stuff before, but…just…WOW!!!
Edit: In fairness, I need to give Rogue some credit for recognizing segregation in this country by calling out that blacks live in the inner city and whites live in the suburbs. So give him a bonus point.

Why would he mention any of that if not to be racist? Why use the term raised by wolves? What else could he have possibly meant?

You obviously haven’t had sensitivity training at your job recently. Everything is some type of microaggression.pdt1081 wrote:You got all of that from what little he typed? Wow. I’m all seriousness, there were probably better ways to word this, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t completely wrong. Quite a few kids stay eligible and in school because of sports. Statistically speaking, the kids that fall into that category tend to be lower income.
Now, that isn’t a rationale for holding sports this fall. I would argue that, instead, we should just educate these kids. Even wolves can learn, right?

If people start to think about the way they stereotype then value could be added to this forum. It might make people uncomfortable but this is the type of learning that should occur through sports. We all do it in some form or another but become better people when we open our eyes to it and change.MarkL wrote:We need some football related content rather than this nonsense. Sensitivity training takes place in the parking lot. I work construction. Job I was working in March had 1500 people on site. Job last year had 1500 on day shift and 800 on night shift. To say I work with all kinds is an understatement. Guess I've just learned to ignore HOW people say things and actually pay attention to WHAT they are saying.footballguy51 wrote: You obviously haven’t had sensitivity training at your job recently. He does have a point, though. While it's not the only thing holding them accountable (parents are a big part) it's one less thing that the parents that care can use. Yes, there are parents that care and parents that don't care. That's not exclusive to "inner-city" either.

"Raised by wolves"? Good Lord. What a horrible thing to say.roguewarrior wrote:So what happens this fall when all the inner city teams have no football? We should be better than this.

Re: Sources: MAC postpones all fall sports, including footba
Our team played Glenville Deep in the playoffs once years ago. We had a few thousands fans. They had less than 100. Not enough to equal two parents per kid , plus their small band. It is not racist to say the family is dissolved in the inner city, and that football and sports is the only real caring family that many of these unfortunate kids have. It is not white and black, because any kid with a dysfunctional family is at risk. If you believe it is racist to say that it happens more in the inner city than the suburbs, I can’t help you. I’ve listened to horror stories of some kids upbringing in the inner city, where the term raised by wolves is from. My dog is treated better. I know inner city coaches that couldn't practice often because kids didn’t show up, even sometimes not for games. The football coaches often save their lives from going down the tubes. If you think that kids in these troubled areas are not in grave danger this fall with no football, I’m afraid you are naive. That was the point.
It’s not my point of view, it’s a fact.

It’s proven that high school sports provide structure and help with accountability, academic success, communication, teamwork, etc in all demographics/communities. Probably should just leave it at that and move on.

You are probably right. Not fun being labeled a racist, when the sentiment was quite the opposite; the further destruction being caused by this lockdown, as it relates to football.TommyG wrote:It’s proven that high school sports provide structure and help with accountability, academic success, communication, teamwork, etc in all demographics/communities. Comparing some parents...inner city or not...to Wolves is an insult to Wolves.

Those threads would get hijacked like this one did. Unfortunate because I used to come here on the daily for good discussion, even over the offseason about relevant topics. Now it's no different than your primetime cable news shows. As a scientist and someone in the public health sector, I really have to bite my tongue with a lot of this and it's better that I leave it alone. I have better discussions about BG sports on Twitter than I do here now, and that's probably where I'll stay for the time being until the MAC announces what the Spring is going to look like.MarkL wrote:We need some football related content rather than this nonsense.
