The final Great Realignment of College Football?
Re: The final Great Realignment of College Football?
CUSA trying to stay alive by going after Liberty, New Mexico St, Sam Houston St & Jacksonville St.
So, if my count is correct, 3 FCS schools possibly moving up.

I also have to wonder, since MAC basketball did away with the divisions (finally), wouldn’t Toledo officials rather see the Rockets compete in the East for football with an expansion? Think about it for a second. For as long as the MAC has had divisions, the West has clearly been the tougher division to win in most years. Sure there’s be a few years where the East has been better and East teams have won the MACC, but for anyone who has followed the MAC can agree, the road to Detroit is almost always more difficult for the West teams than it has been for the East. And it wouldn’t be an additional hurdle for BG having Toledo in the East because BG has to play UT every year anyway. If I’m a UT official, I think I’d actually be lobbying for such a move.
I know we have some UT fans that post on here and I’d actually be curious to hear your take on the matter. Just curious.

C-USA during its run had some major programs come through - UCF, Cincinnati, TCU, Houston, Tulsa to name a few. They should not shame themselves by becoming the landing spot for new FBS programs. Instead they should help find the remaining programs new homes and be proud of the legacy.

Agreed. UTEP could approach the new WAC and join but wait until they move up to FBS for football in a couple years.MarkL wrote: ↑Tue Nov 02, 2021 9:50 am C-USA during its run had some major programs come through - UCF, Cincinnati, TCU, Houston, Tulsa to name a few. Not sure what LaTech and FIU would do though.

Silly. The travel for some of these schools is going to be outrageous. Too much hubris to let the conference die and help the remaining leftovers find homes.

The Sun Belt and the MAC are going to be at 14 teams each. The Mountain West doesn't seem interested in Texas-El Paso. If the Conference USA leftovers want a conference, their only option seems to be to add a bunch of new schools.jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 02, 2021 10:15 am Silly. If expansion for the MAC is in evitable, I’d rather see WKU and Liberty as opposed to MTSU. The physical transformation of Liberty’s campus and ongoing athletic facilities is damn near remarkable. They are also in outstanding shape financially which is almost unheard of for any other group of five institution.

Liberty has too many scandals going on right now and MAC should keep their distance imo

I'm fine with MTSU given WKU is part of the deal. MTSU standalone - no thanks. But hey, the last two times BG has played MTSU in football it's been defeats, so who are we to say how bad they look?Schadenfreude wrote: ↑Tue Nov 02, 2021 10:54 amI think we can do better than Middle Tennessee, but I want nothing to do with Liberty. They would be a terrible fit in this conference.

Well the first loss at MTSU was a week prior to a 74 point loss to Memphis. The second was when the BG center messed up a bunch of snaps to Doege. And fhe BG defense allowed a team minus its QB and top receiver, and a team with no ground success at all, to run wild. So if MTSU wants to hang their hat on those wins, more power to them.

Re: The final Great Realignment of College Football?
WKU and MTSU are both father West than every school in the MAC except for NIU. But I 100% could see the MAC putting them both in the East and moving BG back to the West. And I would HATE this beyond what I can even describe. That is my main hangup and issue with all of this expansion talk (which I'm fully expecting to happen). I'm more against a displacement of BG again than I am against any sort of conference expansion. I'd be okay with an expansion and then either splitting them between divisions and letting them have a protected crossover game, or sending them both to the West where they geographically fall and fit. However, with MAC officials making the calls and pulling the strings, I could easily see them doing something head scratching and moving BG yet again and sticking them both in the East. Just watch....

Buffalo would scream bloody murder if both of them are placed in the East.BGSU33 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 02, 2021 12:30 pm WKU and MTSU are both father West than every school in the MAC except for NIU.
