If we ever want to attract good candidates, we’re going to have to top $1M a year. Seems unlikely we could ever meet that demand with our crappy TV deal.

I read in the Toledo Blade ( I think it was the Blade) that Central pays just a little over $1M. Im not sure how they can pull that off with there enrollment in the tank and budget issues.

Most likely private money. BG would have to be no different. Loeffler is slated to make $600K in his final year. It would require a significant infusion of cash.

There are still very few power 5 headcoaching jobs. Coaching at any team in FBS is desirable. We will easily find someone who wants this job and it's still a stepping stone

For sure. The question is where it is a stepping stone too. We are no longer a viable stepping stone for somebody wanting to be HC at a top 20 program. Those people are better off as position coaches and coordinators at the NFL or top 20 level.

And I'm not saying that's even really an issue, but Urban was a once in a lifetime hire and I don't think any MAC program will ever be in the career arc of a guy like that in any of our lifetimes.

I don't think Fleck, Babers or Clawson are actually that far off. Catch fire one season and their name would be on a short list.

BG is a very good job for a younger coach who knows what the hell they are doing. Yeah you’re not going to attract top end P5 coordinators because it’s tough to go from making 2+ million to less than a million.
MAC teams won’t ever be relevant on the national stage again, but BG has everything it needs to win in the conference. There are drawbacks compared to other conference schools I’m sure, but the positives far outweigh the negatives. The guys who can’t win here just aren’t good coaches. It is really that simple.
MAC coaches aren’t going to win and get a top 20 job anymore (Utah wasn’t a top 50 program when Urban left either), you’re likely going to have to go prove you can win at a slightly bigger school before you get a shot with the big boys.
Lance Leipold, Brian Kelly, Matt Campbell, Clawson, Dino (not that caliber of coach, but similar situation) all had to do the same. Win and get out to a better job and then hope you can move on from there.

Kehres would have taken the job and he wouldn't have cost near a million.

Lewis went from MAC HC to P5 OC...which is still a nice paying gig. My only concern with Kehres is the fact that Mt Union dominated before and after he left. Would he know how to handle cleaning up the mess left by a pudding head like Scot
