Sources: MAC postpones all fall sports, including football
Re: Sources: MAC postpones all fall sports, including footba
The NCAA has recommended (and will likely approve) the idea that each student-athlete will basically get a free extra year of eligibility, as this year won't count against ANYONE, regardless of how many games each student-athlete plays.
I'm very intrigued to see how this impacts BGSU. I know funding 20ish extra football scholarships isn't ideal (in addition to all of the other sports) but I am interested to hear what other people think of this.

This will impact students for years to come. Are they going to allow the teams to carry extra scholarship players? If not, then you won’t need to recruit many kids for next year.

For many...college sports will die due to a self inflicted injury. None of this is necessary...

My nephew was a tech support guy at OSU...when football season was cut, anyone without a contract got laid off by the University. You would think an institution with a fat endowment like OSU could ride a yea rout, but apparently it isn't about that. It's about maintaining the profit margins...like any other corporation.

BGSU coaches & athletic administrators spent part of the afternoon at the protest on campus over the Facebook comments of a BGSU groundskeeper. The guy who mows lawns.

He said he was going on a "C**n Hunt" in reference to a live stream of a protest over black lives.guest44 wrote:BGSU coaches & athletic administrators spent part of the afternoon at the protest on campus over the Facebook comments of a BGSU groundskeeper. The guy who mows lawns.
He absolutely should be gotten the F out of BG, and I applaud the coaches/admins for uniting with their players, joining with the rest of the student body, and taking a stand against racism. I'm sure the student athletes appreciated their coaches and the rest of the department having their backs.
I'm proud of the university community for coming together for a good reason.

What was the context of "coon hunt"? It is a common phrase to describe raccoon hunting ...

It was in the context of calling black people at a protest a racial slur.Flipper wrote:What was the context of "coon hunt"? It is a common phrase to describe raccoon hunting ...
I don't think ignorance can be claimed here. It was pretty clearly intended to be a demeaning comment to discredit the protestors. It's pretty cut and dry.

He would never work another day at BGSU regardless. He is a lawnmower. He would be fired even if BGSU was still set to play OSU this Saturday.

He was put on paid administrative leave today.guest44 wrote:He would never work another day at BGSU regardless. He is a lawnmower. He would be fired even if BGSU was still set to play OSU this Saturday.
The protest was a powerful demonstration that united the campus. Literally zero downside.

He won't mow another lawn at BGSU or shovel another sidewalk. That would have happened regardless.

And that's fine, and should be the case. But the comments have real consequences, and people were hurting. This helps the healing process, and I applaud those involved.guest44 wrote:He won't mow another lawn at BGSU or shovel another sidewalk. That would have happened regardless.

I agree...any use of that term outside of a discussion about steps he's going to take...as a groundskeeper..to rid the campus of raccoons is grounds for his removal immediately.mbenecke wrote:It was in the context of calling black people at a protest a racial slur.Flipper wrote:What was the context of "coon hunt"?
