Re: Coaching carousel
San Jose State is hiring former Navy HC Ken Niumatalolo to be their next head coach.
He was on UCLA’s staff in an advisory role this past season and had been put in charge of their tight ends recently, but he’s moving on to San Jose State to lead their program now.

Buffalo is hiring South Carolina special teams coach Pete Lembo to be their next head coach. Lembo was also the head coach at Ball State previously.

Re: Coaching carousel
Rumors of Chip Kelly leaving UCLA for NFL OC position and still waiting if Harbaugh leaves. Carousel may continue!

Wow. He was near the top of my list to start the season but SC was terrible. 5-7.
Lembo has a ton of coaching experience, and some success, but I had we hired him I wouldn't be happy about it.

The Athletic is reporting that Akron's Joe Moorhead is likely to be an OC candidate in the NFL after openings are filled in the league. Would be gutting to an Akron program that seemingly cannot find its footing.
The longer the walk, the farther you crawl.
Re: Coaching carousel
He’s a Pittsburgh native and the Steelers have an opening at OC. Wouldn’t be surprised at all.jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2024 5:30 pm The Athletic is reporting that Akron's Joe Moorhead is likely to be an OC candidate in the NFL after openings are filled in the league. And the carousel spins on.
Jim Harbaugh is running from the NCAA violations that are about to hit his alma mater, and he’s accepted the head coaching job with the Los Angeles Chargers in the NFL.
In all seriousness, he’s an incredible NFL coach and it’s going to be fun seeing what he can do in pursuit of the only thing eluding him - a Super Bowl.

Re: Coaching carousel
It'll be interesting to see how it plays out for him out there. It was pretty widely reported that he was quickly growing out of favor in SF before he started shopping himself for jobs (to avoid getting fired). He then took UM to the top of the mountain, but he's been shopping himself for NFL jobs for years too.mbenecke wrote: ↑Wed Jan 24, 2024 6:49 pm And the carousel spins on.

I think he's a VERY good HC. He wins everywhere he goes. He also doesn't seem like the type to likely build a long term dynasty anywhere, and when things get tough for him rather than adapt he definitely wants to get out for his next opportunity. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it's kind of been who he is.
I do think he made some pretty big personality changes/adaptations in his time at UM and really became one of the better HCs in college football; I'm curious to see how that plays out for him in the NFL. I'm also curious/excited to see how Justin Herbert works out with him. I'm not sure where I stand on Herbert. You watch him play and you're like, holy s**t that guy is amazing. You look at advanced stats and they paint him as a top 4-5 QB by nearly every metric. Yet, also, when I watch him play he personifies the SD Chargers culture of finding a way to lose games they shouldn't. Is that on him? Not entirely, but there have been a LOT of times he's had a chance to make the big play that could win games that he hasn't made the play. Harbaugh is a pretty damn good QB developer though, so it should be a good marriage for them.

I'll just leave this....
There's at least a couple listeners on Detroit sports radio who think Loeffler would be a better replacement in Ann Arbor than Sherrone Moore.

Re: Coaching carousel
Had Saban stuck around...DeBoer probably would be a top option for UM. Brian Kelly keeps popping up as a possible Harbaugh replacement... But that seems doubtful.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: Coaching carousel
Michigan is almost certainly replacing Harbaugh by promoting their OC Sherrone Moore. It sounds like DC Jesse Minter, STC Jay Harbaugh, and their strength coach Ben Herbert are going to be on Jim's staff with the Chargers.
