Hello turds (and I say that as affectionately as possible). Vandelay posted the following on one of the Rockets' message boards and I thought that you'd be interested. Vandelay is really good at assessing talent, so this should be good for you guys. Note the "best player" part. FWIW, I'm glad to see UC left out in the cold on this one. Here it is:
The Cleveland Plain Dealer reported today that Elyria 'athlete' PJ Mahone has committed to BG over Cincy, and received several other MAC offers and had strong interest from Big Ten schools. I was hoping we would land him. I officiated an Elyria game and without question in my mind he was the best player in the Greater Cleveland area this year. He had over 1,000 yards this year both rushing and receiving and is a terrific DB. I have sent Emails to Mark on him all season. Great pick up for the Falcons.
UT is listed in the 2004 edition of The Unofficial, Unbiased Guide to the 328 Most Interesting Colleges by Trent Anderson and Seppy Basili as one of the U.S. schools with the “Most Beautiful Urban Campus.”

Thanks for the info TDR
Sounds like this kid is the perfect build for a kick-ass DB. I wouldn't be surprised if he saw our lack of WR depth, knows about our spread, and thought he could break into the position. Maybe a limited two-way player for us? With him and Smith both in the Def Backfield, we could see a lot of exciting int returns the next few years

Thanks for the news, Flipper. I posted it on the Rocket message board a little bit ago. Down with UC!Flipper wrote:And the Rockettes have nabbed Fremont Ross' QB Aaron Opelt. He picked UT over....Cincinnati. Good to see the Bearcats lose another one...
BTW, if Mahone is the top player in the Cleveland area, that says A LOT. If that is the case, I almost expect him to start next year.
Also, not that I'm very confident that this will happen, but the Rockets have a chance to pull off a MAC hat trick on UC with *** safety Barry Church. Check this out.

This picture gives me a bad feeling about the Rockets' chances with Church.

That would be another GREAT get for BG. I hope it's true, it would make for a nice week in BG recruiting. Pull a top 30 safety away from Cincinnati & pull a LB away from his commitment to Ole Miss!? Who would've thought that to be possible 5 years ago?BGSUfalcons wrote:Rivals is reporting that Brandon Jackson gave a soft verbal to BG.
Gotta love the aviation program!
It now says 'solid verbal'BGSUfalcons wrote:Rivals is reporting that Brandon Jackson gave a soft verbal to BG.

Wow look at the list of potential schools that BG was fighting with, obviously Ole Miss. But Arkansas and Tennessee. It's pretty nice that we can get a player to come to BG that has some of those schools after him. Looks like it's a good thing we have an aviation program. Who would've thought that that major would come into play for football recruiting?Warthog wrote:It now says 'solid verbal'BGSUfalcons wrote:Rivals is reporting that Brandon Jackson gave a soft verbal to BG.![]()

Also on the BG team page on rivals it looks like we are making a solid effort to recruit some defensive players.

This is starting to get weird. In the last couple of days BG has commits from a player that chose them over Cincy and a player that chose them over Ole Miss.hammb wrote:That would be another GREAT get for BG. Just to clarify, the schools listed are the schools the recruit is interested in along with the level of interest that recruit has in that school, not necessarily the other way around. Now if they have offered him then that is a different story. Per scout.com, only Ole Miss and Memphis offered Jacksom, but those are teams from conferences above the MAC!Tricky_Falcon wrote:Wow look at the list of potential schools that BG was fighting with, obviously Ole Miss.
