We don't play Northwestern next week, or this entire year. I like where you heart's at, but we'd go 2-6 at best in the Big Ten.
Uhh, No!!! Do you even know all the schools in the Big Ten?! Here's a hypothetical conference schedule for us:

at Minnesota - we won this game 32-31
at Michigan State - we lost this one 28-17
Northwestern - perfect opponent for homecoming at the Doyt - win
Iowa - The Hawkeyes aren't as good as they used to be, just lost to Indiana at home. And they have to come to the Doyt too. - win
at Ohio State - Okay, in the Shoe, we don't have much of a shot. - loss
Michigan - If our hockey team can beat UM at home, why not our football team? Ah, they probably have too many weapons for us, even at home - loss
Indiana - This team isn't bad, but they aren't big nor physical compared to the rest of the B10. They are a good matchup for us, and at home - win
at Penn State - Beaver Stadium is a tough play to play, and PSU is big and physical up front. They play great D. This would be very tough - loss

That puts us 4-4. In this example we didn't play Illinois or Wisconsin. I challenge anybody, even Tekeki-traitor to defy my logic here. What I think everybody forgets about these games against the B10 is that we ALWAYS have to play on the road, which makes winning 10x harder in some cases. Imagine if OSU had to come to BG to play in 2003. That 23-16 loss could have easily been a 23-16 victory.

I know them all, I'm just wondering if you do? You never even mentioned Purdue. You knew they were in the Big Ten, right? They were left off the schedule along with Illinois and Wisconsin. Very convenient leaving off three teams we'd be decided underdogs against btw.

I feel bad having to correct you again on BG football, but we lost 24-17 not 23-16, not that it's relivent since this BG team isn't nearly as good as the 2003 version.
That list looks like a lot of wishful thinking. Playing in the Big Ten week in and week out is a lot tougher than having to play them twice. It's easy to get up for a few games a year, it's a lot different having to come ready to play your best ball every week. We haven't even won a MAC title in 15 years, but you're right we'd be just fine in the Big Ten. BTW, you're obviously going by reputation and haven't actually watched Indiana play much this year if you want to chalk that up as a win. Kellen Lewis and James Hardy would give our defense fits. They'd be favored by at least a touchdown and probably double-digits.

As long as Hardy doesn't get arrested you may have a point.

So far as BG goes, we get quite a lot out of our limited resources. I'd say that on our a dollar for dollar basis, our achievements are far more impressive than the cow college's
Gators lost to a bad Auburn team. haha thats kinda funny. Thanks for the #4 ranking Florida!
Please enjoy this while it lasts numb-nuts. I will go on record at this point in time and state that tOSU will NOT win the "open for further debate" National Championship - heck - they won't even beat my Wolverines! :D Stay in front of your TV and continue pretending to be a Buck-nut.
Your Wolverines? The same Wolverines who lost to Appalachian State and Oregon? The same Wolverines whose most impressive win was against an overrated Penn State who is now 0-2 in the Big Ten? The same wolverines who were losing to Northwestern going into the 4th quarter and only scored 26 points against them when OSU scored 28 just in the first quarter?

LOL. OK

he conveniently left three of the better teams out.

here is what BG would most likely do against the Big Ten teams. I will put them all on here and then you could try to fight over who would be on the schedule.

BG v. OSU = BG loss
BG v. Michigan = BG loss
BG v Wisconsin = BG loss
BG v PSU = BG loss
BG v Purdue= BG loss
BG v Illinois = BG loss
BG v Iowa = BG loss
BG v Minnesota = BG win
BG v Indiana = (close but I think the QB for IU too mobile for BG's slow D - BG loss)
BG v MSU = BG loss
BG v Northwestern = BG win

two wins total.

that doesn't get you in a bowl game unless you win all 4 OOC games.

wow I'm stunned you picked us to beat NW and didn't say the Minnesota win was a fluke

This is the lamest cliche, a supposed Midwest "truism" that has been built up to mystical proportions in the old Northwest country as generations of Big Ten fans watched their largely run-oriented offenses fly off to doom in locales like Pasadena, Calif.

Sure, Big Ten teams might be a few pounds heavier and slightly faster. But it is hard to think of something in America that has been more greatly exaggerated than the cumulative difficulty of playing a Big Ten schedule.

I don't think many people would argue the 2007 Falcons are better than the 2003 Falcons, but it isn't out of the question at all that this 2007 edition might qualify for a bowl game as a member of the Big Ten.

The Minnesota game is in the history books. The Falcons would only need one or two more wins playing as a Big Ten team to qualify for a bowl game, depending on how lightly they chose to schedule in non conference play -- and, of course, they would schedule much more lightly as a member of the Big Ten.

Northwestern would obviously be a winnable game; they lost to Duke.

Iowa is looking very beatable. Northern Illinois -- which is getting absolutely hammered in MAC play -- hung tough with them at Solider Field, and Iowa lost to the same Iowa State team vanquished by Kent State and oh-for-the-MAC Toledo.

Also, while Illinois and Indiana look resurgent, and while we also know how the Michigan State game turned out, don't forget that half of these games would be played at Perry Stadium.

(And also let us not fail to give Wisconsin the scrutiny it deserves. They win close games against Michigan State and Iowa and that makes them a Top 10 team? Seriously?)

Maybe the Falcons would go 2-6 in the Big Ten. But I don't see that as a ceiling. And even at 2-6, that could be a bowl season, depending on the nonconference schedule (check out the Northwestern nonconference schedule: Northeastern, Nevada, Duke and Eastern Michigan).

More importantly, the crowds would get bigger at Perry Stadium because of all our new opponents with big traveling fan bases. The recruiting would be much easier.

And, most important of all, we'd get exponentially more revenue as a member of one of the BCS's favored conferences.

Is playing in the Big Ten week in and week out tougher? Sure. But I don't think there is a soul associated with the Falcon program who wouldn't sign on the dotted line immediately. Soon enough, if not immediately, these Falcons would be a post season team.

Uh, let's work on your math. Big Ten minus eight conference games leaves TWO teams out, not three. Oh, wait... :-D

Yes it is, I drove by it on gameday this past saturday, and the douchebags that reside there were all sitting on the porch watching TV dressed head to toe in tosu garb. I highly doubt that they attended the BG game.....

Agreed.

Since Urban came here and changed the attitude about football this program has gotten more out of it's resources than quite a few of the Big 10 programs have. If you give this program a BCS revenue stream I don't think it's unthinkable at all that they would be a better program than NW, Indiana, Illinois, & Minnesota. I think they would be firmly planted in the 2nd tier of the Big 10 with MSU, Purdue, and Iowa.
