Kent didn’t punt once. That’s a first since I’ve been here.
It’s not my point of view, it’s a fact.

I've never seen a guy on the sidelines in a walking boot get penalized before. Truly a night of firsts...

Yeah the outcoached bit is nothing more than a deflection away from the players. The opening kick set the tone for the game and it never really got better from there. Had Kent not shot themselves in the foot on several occasions in the first quarter the game would have been over by 7:30 and they drop 50+.Schadenfreude wrote: ↑Wed Nov 09, 2022 10:45 pmI could live with most of those fourth down calls. He was counting on our defense to keep us in the game while he kept rolling the dice to keep drives going. It's a strategy. The problem was, the Falcons kept rolling snake eyes on fourth downs, and we gave up a ton of field position in the process.
I didn't like that fake punt though. That didn't fool many people and it was on our own side of the field.
Loeffler just finished speaking with the media. He just said he was outcoached. A couple of minutes later, he came back to it. I think this is a direct quote: "There's very few times that I can saw we were outcoached. We were outcoached plain and simple," Loeffler said.
I respect his determination to own the loss rather than keep too much of the focus on his players in front of the media.
I like this team. I honestly like Loeffler from what little I've seen of him. He seems like a good guy. He works hard. Part of me really likes this this old school offense and all the tight end play. (Few things are as fun as watching a big ol' tight end grab the ball and rumble down the field.) I'd feel good about having a kid play for him.
But this was a really disappointing loss. Hard to feel good about the program tonight.
I'm not going to be all pitchforks today - it's rivalry week and the last thing I want to be thinking about is wishing for two losses to end the season so Scot loses his job. Last night was no doubt an embarrassment and you hope it's fuel for Tuesday to beat Toledo in their backyard and potentially earn a 13th game.
As for the offense. It's an albatross. There's no creativity. Kent ran several plays last night where you didn't know what Schlee was going to do because he had multiple options at his disposal. We know what that scheme can do when it's clicking. BG struggles to score 20 points a game against conference foes in the fourth year of the offense with a fifth year senior QB. It's unacceptable. That side of the ball has not improved at all since 2019 and if Scot does end up losing his job, it'll be easy to point at that as the reason why.

Losing 40-6 and 38-7 in your two biggest games of the year at home… I don’t know, man. I think we’re better than last year, but I think we’ve just about hit our ceiling with Loeffler. Could we still spring an upset the next 2 weeks and make a bowl game? I do think that’s possible. But not likely. And if we finish 5-7 on a 3-game losing streak, where we don’t really look competitive against the better teams in the MAC, how much progress have we actually made?
I think the offensive scheme is severely holding this team back. The talent is there (skill positions especially) but it’s just not explosive. And I don’t know that it ever will be. And when you can’t score more than like 17 points in a game, your defense has to be way better than ours is at the moment. I think they deserve credit for turning this defense into one that is serviceable in the MAC, but they still have a long way to go if they're going to be good enough to win more than 4 or 5 games per year with this offense.
So… I still think Loeffler ultimately gets another year (and probably a short extension so he can recruit), but I think if we don’t win like 7 or 8 games, he’s gone after next season.

Kent actually beat Ohio and lost to Ball St last week in a game they would probably win more often than not. When healthy Kent and Ohio are the two best teams in the East. Bowling Green is probably 4th as Miami can’t get right.
Bowling Green should make Lewis an offer. It’s still a better job than Kent.

If Bowling Green gives Scot Loeffler a contract extension for going 5-7 they are out of this world dumb. No recruit in transfer portal free agency cares about Scot Loeffler’s contract situation. The only thing it does is hog tie BG. If anything being a lame duck might get him out on the road to find a real quarterback in the portal. Giving him an extension is literally nuts. Nobody else wants him anywhere to be a head coach. Only Kit Hughes has and ever will.

Kent beats Ball State if they're healthy. No Walker and Cephas in that game killed them.guest44 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 10, 2022 8:00 am

Lewis signed an extension last year. BG may be a better job on paper but he's not going anywhere, and nor should he. BG could have offered him the job when Dino left, probably didn't because he was super green but that scheme works well in the MAC.

Good catch on Ohio. Shows how tough these next two games will be.
Loeffler looked so lost night. Also, first time I noticed the blonde gal following him around carrying his play sheets. What a job that would be..

I don’t care what analytics suggest, or what is vogue in the game today. Going for it on 4th and long from midfield, with a less than powerhouse team is foolish, arrogant, reckless… choose your adjective. He has done this since day 1. It has put our D on their heels way too often and cost us many games. Don’t blame the players for perceiving they don’t care…. At some point they say WTF?!? And know what is coming next… He has no game day chops. That will never change or evolve.

Re: vs. Kent State (11/9)
The 4th down calls are more ridiculous when your offense and quarterback stink. It’s more ridiculous when you factor how much the defense is responsible for so much of the pathetic output of Scot Loeffler’s(qb guru) pathetic offense. Why play to your strengths when you can get down and call fullback passes down by 23?
Several coaches will take the field on Friday night this weekend in and around NW Ohio. A handful of them can manage a football game better than Loeffler. They just weren’t in Tom Brady’s wedding or know Tim Tebow. Or more importantly have any ties to Boston back in 2018 when that mattered so much.

They played Georgia about as good as anyone has in the past 11 months.
Re: vs. Kent State (11/9)
You don’t need to run a 1988 offense to utilize your tight ends though. They should be running a scheme that covers up their poor offensive line and limited qb but they don’t. Plenty of skilled guys they could get the ball to in a more modern offense.Schadenfreude wrote: ↑Wed Nov 09, 2022 10:45 pm (Few things are as fun as watching a big ol' tight end grab the ball and rumble down the field.)
