I personally know an attorney in Houston, who happens to be a partner at a major law firm in Houston, that is a BG Alum and on the radar screen of the development office but has not been approached in any kind of organized or logical fashion. He has money and is ready to give, but needs to be approached in a logical fashion and shown a plan...maybe even have his ego stroked a little. But this staff has not been able to get that done.
Maybe we can make him the PA announcer for football games next year....

A few points.....

The prior 4 years in football were arguably the best 4 years of BG Football in recent memory....what has it gotten us?

Both Ball State and Northern Illinois have already raised 100% of the money needed for their "Sebo Centers" and they are bigger and nicer. We still can not even get the last 3 million needed for our watered down version compared to theirs. How is that so? Success - no. More wealthy alums - no. I just feel that our development office (Seeliger) has not made the effort to connect with the right people and to find the right people, they are out there.

I understand who runs the Falcon Club, but my point is that it all falls under development which is the area over which Seeliger resides. Regarding the Falcon Club, I have folks I know that have to call and remind them that their membership needs to be renewed as they do not receive anything from the Falcon Club....what a joke that is.

The growth we all hoped to see from our on field success has not happened in terms of fund raising or attendance. Krebs will continue to work towards fixing those things, however anyone that knows him would be inclined to tell you that fundraising is not his best attribute. So he has placed faith in people to handle that area that are not good at it and we are seeing the lack of results now while other MAC schools are getting what they need to improve their programs.

Losing Krebs would set us back and I just hope he does not get that job at NM or turns it down. With his leadership and plans, combined with effective fund raisers (new ones!), we could take off literally. If he leaves, I agree Dr. Ribeau will find the best person out there....I just can not see who that is right now??

Welcome to the boards. Nice to see some fresh views. It probably wouldn't hurt to shoot someone an e-mail in the athletic dept. about the guy in Houston if he really wants to donate money to the athletic dept. I know it's not your job to do this but it could help.

I would be shocked if Krebs were offered teh job at NM and passed. I would guess that he thought long and hard before throwing his hat in the ring for this position if he was not sure it was a great opportunity. I don't think you go public with an announcement and deal with all the questions (which I am sure have been asked of him 100 times in the last 3 weeks) that come when applying for a job in the public eye.

I am (selfishly) holding out hope that he is passed over at NM though.

I am hoping for the same thing. You make valid points about Krebs likely taking the position if offered. I do wonder though if he feels the timing is bad and is possibly struggling with the decision in some way.

If he does go however....any thoughts as to replacement? My only clear point is that Seeliger is not the man for the job, he has no track record and is not even effective in his role as the lead fund raiser for the department.

i don't think that there is always an heir apparent. i trust the administration to conduct a thorough nationwide search to find the best possible candidate. there may be someone that is not in the spotlight per se, but will be able to do a fantastic job. see: meyer, urban.

It could be.

Teachers are our specialty, and teachers aren't rich.

NIU has a law school. We don't. NIU may have a med school (not sure). We don't.

We will miss Krebs if he goes. He's a good one.

Why dont we have a stronger relationship with. to name a few. Bernie Casey, Erik White(?), Martin Bayless, Khary Campbell?, Don Nehlan? Anyone in the Doyt Perry family? Should these not be the faces of our program. Why don't we have them meeting people, shaking hands etc. etc. Getting funds.

The list is surely much longer for many of you,

Bernie Casey may not still be alive but you get my point.
(If he is not alive you can imagine the kinds of funds we could get if he came to ask for donations.)

Daniels # should be retired.

We should have a BG hall of Honor with players all around the arena. McLeod, Stacey, Komives, Daniels, Thurmond....etc. Their pictures should be everywhere. Your number does not have to be retired to have a Big Picture of you Dunking on Someone underneath it say MAC player of the YEAR 2002. List the Stat line. Very Minimal cost there.

I know that that one guy does a great job with the BG archives, I forget his name but he seems to be a one man show, It basically is something very very good that could be done in a guys basement. We need a university backing to take his idea much much farther.

Why not have the guy from Terminator 2 come back one football game and pass out some T2 masks to the first 1.000 people and then have a banquet at night where you meet and great him. He could go around prior to the game and shake hands with the tailgaters???? Have a famous alum do this every home game?????

Chad Johnson did this prior to his own teams game, you have to be kidding me if we cant name the Ball State or whatever game next year, Bernie Casey weekend, celebrate him, have him shake hands before the game, come out at half time, do the coin toss, Have him host a banquet at night. Gladhand the big wigs. 200$ plates or more I dont know. We auction off some of his memorabilia or signed jerseys from his time with BG, the Rams or 49ers. Or from his movies, such as James Bond or my favorite I'm gonna get you sucka.

Then Sunday we have a showing of artwork from his students at the Savannah College of Art and Design where he is currently the Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

We have a joint showing with our Art program.

There is one weekend. Gives old timers a reason to come back to the University from where-ever.

Who has more disposable income than people who graduated from BGSU around 1960 and are still alive (People from Harvard I know).

Give them a reason to come back, and then give them a reason to give. Give them a Brick with their name on it on the SEBO or whatever new object we are creating.

Pretty good discussion going on. Hopefully someone in the dept reads this thread like they did our Nate Thurmond thread. I remember Dayons_Den even made a picture of what the Thurmond banner should look like and they basically took his model and had it up in the gym a few weeks later.

Do we really celebrate our greats from the past. I am far away from the program so maybe I am missing it. Do we do this at all?
