The Krebs Legacy, what is next?
FP: not holding anything out, I just don't know if he even wants the job, and I'm not going to be the first person to spout his name. The rumor mill will do that soon enough I'm sure.

Thank you Nathan, but I am not a candidate for the position. I have withdrawn from consideration.NWLB wrote:FP: not holding anything out, I just don't know if he even wants the job, and I'm not going to be the first person to spout his name. The rumor mill will do that soon enough I'm sure.

Did I say Seeliger? Hmmmm? BUT, now that you mention him, I'd agree that he is the only internal person I could see getting the job. But I'm not saying that he would want it.1987alum wrote:I believe Nathan is referring to Scott Seeliger. I have no inside knowledge of his qualifications to ascend to the top spot. I can only say that my personal interactions with him have been great and I think he's a terrific person.
I think there won't be a shortage of external options wanting the job though. And if I had any sense that I wouldn't get the job, I wouldn't run for it as an interal.
Maybe somebody ought to call Fran Voll!

What is he doing these days?NWLB wrote:Maybe somebody ought to call Fran Voll!
Check out our new BGSU hockey site: http://www.bgsuhockey.com
He was a football coach at BGSU over two different stints, both of which saw the Falcons win titles. The man doesn't simply bleed orange and brown. When a drop of his blood hits the ground, it explodes in orange flames and brown smoke. Talk to the guy about BGSU sports, and he exudes an intensity about it.Falcon Pete wrote:Curious as to what he has accomplished exactly that makes him qualified to be AD above any of the other internal choices??
What is that you see that makes you think he is such a solid choice??
Scott has been a fixture of athletic orientated and general booster events since I can remember. He has a presence at these events. If PK or a coach was at an event, Scott always is working the rest of the room. The big fish and people “in the know” flock to him. He is a known, well liked entity among booster and donors. Those relationships could serve him well if he runs the entire show.
Scott has an established record of accomplishment with raising funds and finishing projects. He picked up the mess that Phil Mason left with regard to the twin elevator towers at DLP stadium. He had a fair amount to do with the renovation of the stadium boxes. In 1996 I personally worked with him on an event to promote the CMU game on campus. I still consider that event the prototype for much of what has emerged since then. Nobody had done it before that point. He hammered home the need to boost student attendance for years before we saw it become a priority. In short, he “gets it.”
Scott is said/known to have had strong input into recent coaching selections. I start to wonder if he didn't have input into other specific hires as I start to consider the matter. Paul Krebs would be the first to say Seeliger's council is highly valued. He was talking about the need for an on-campus hotel near the athletics area since the ground-breaking for the elevator towers. An idea that has since made it to the University master plan. He has spoken of things that echo what we are hearing about a new convocation center since long before Paul Krebs arrived. I believe his thinking is much more in-line with what has to happen at BGSU.
The things I don't know about are Scott's interest in the job and if he has a masters degree. I can understand how he might very much not wish to take the AD position. He is very good at what he does right now. He isn't young as you might think. As far as any internal candidates go however, he is without question the most accomplished and influential.
Jenna Blais came to BGSU because of Paul Krebs, she is expecting her second kid shortly, and I would figure her as being the most likely person to follow Krebs to UNM. She is often seen at events, but just doesn't have the same name, face, or general gravitas that Seeliger does. Jim has paid his dues, earned his stripes, and proven as highly capable in his position as any there may be. It is not fault of his own, that he doesn't have the time to wine and dine as Seeliger, or even Blais may. However his career path seems more likely to lead him to a higher paying job at a major conference school. I've known Jim since about the time he got the job, and I like him tons. I'm not implying he can't do the job, or shouldn't be given his due consideration. But if I'm putting money on an internal candidate-which I am not-then Scott gets my bet.
One pitfall BGSU must avoid is playing into the sentimental camp. This isn't a time to go with the home-town hero. This has to be one for the ages.

JoeFalcon wrote:Janna Blais would be a pioneering hire. (Arizona State has a female AD who had years of coaching experience as a volleyball coach at USC.)
In the spirit of innovation, she could name Curt Miller as head coach of the men's team (pre-emptively taking him off the market for greedy women's programs) and promote Jennifer Roos as head women's coach.
naming curt miller as head coach for the mens team would be an awesome job, he has already shown that he is a great recruiter and the man can obviously coach, the only problem id have with taht is transistion from the womens to mens game. I think that the new AD should def take a look at that perspective.
