I think it would help a great deal to get to some of the improvements we continue to talk about here -- bells and whistles stuff, pink railing type stuff, stuff that shouldn't cost that much money. Examples:

1. Patch up some of the exposed rusted rebar and other signs of age on the stadium.
2. Replace the worn out chairback seats and consider expanding or repositioning them if doing so would mean more ticket revenue.
3. Junk the chain link fences and replace them with a more impressive brick and iron scheme that fits the Sebo.

That stuff is easy and it shouldn't be that expensive.

To get people excited about coming to Perry Stadium every Saturday, Perry Stadium needs to feel big time, a clear step up from the experience folks can get anywhere else. Fixing that stuff would help.

I think we have a good stadium -- fundamentally better than (for example) Peden Stadium, which I walked into for the first time yesterday toward the end of a road trip.

But it needs some TLC.

bottom line is we dont have the same bling as BCS collaborators like OSU, and now with more bowls the rift grows greater. i feel we should do our best to enjoy our OCC games the next few years, as i see big changes on the horizion.

haha, even though id love to see that just like every other falcon fan and OSU hater.

speaking of OSU haters, they are few and far between on this campus. It makes me sick to see just as much OSU apparel on campus than falcon gear. It's really getting ridiculous! Wheres the school spirit...where is the love for the school that you PAY to go to. I'd be willing to bet that if you walk through the dorms on october 7th, 2006, when the falcons invade the horseshoe...there will be more cheers for OSU TD's than boos, its a huge dilemma on this campus.

There is a huge lack of interest in our own sports, and it is from the freshman class, more so than anyone. Now i can say that i WILL be at OSU for the BG game and i hope more than anything for a win there, to ruin a possible national title chance for the suckeyes and greatly increase the interest in Falcon football and all sports.

I'd bet that that would get our students attention that we actually have a more than decent football program. GO FLACONS!

I have always been an OSU fan and always will be, but I am a falcon fan first and foremost. There is nothing wrong with staying loyal to the team you grew up rooting for. However the Falcons for me always come first. I only want the Buckeyes to lose one game next year and we all know exactly which game that is. The better they are the better we look when we play against them. Having lived in the dorms the last two years I can assure you that there will NOT be many people rooting for the Bucks around here when we head down there, at least not on the floors I have lived in.

I've heard a few people claim that there is as much OSU apparel worn on our campus as there is BGSU apparel worn on our campus. It simply isn't true. In fact, the amount of BGSU apparel dwarfs the amount of OSU apparel. On a few occasions, while walking across campus, I counted how many people were wearing OSU stuff versus how many people were wearing BGSU stuff. I can't recall the exact counts, but the count always showed more BGSU stuff and the SMALLEST ratio was something like slightly more than 3:1 in BGSU's favor. On two other occasions, it was something like 6:1 in BGSU's favor.

That's pretty much my take on the issue as well. I was always an OSU fan, and I do still root for them, but I'll be rooting against them that day. I won't be able to attend that game, but I'll be watching it at my buddy's wedding.

I've got a free trip and admission to the game. Since Dr. Hayward recieved her Doctorate from OSU, they pretty much invited us back to march at halftime as soon as the schedule was finalized.

Hey, i have no problem with that, i was raised on rooting for the suckeyes, but my original intent was drawn to alot of people that say "why go to a BGSU sports event when the buckeyes are playing on espn...ill just stay in my dorm and watch them" people take for granted that we get into sprting events by just showing a card, and yes i know we still do pay for athletics in tuition but thats not my point. We have the luxury of seeing D-I sports for free. I have talked to a lot of my fellow classmates talking about BG sports and when the prospect of BG playing OSU or scUM, in football/hockey. I always here them say they will want OSU or scUM to win, and then they have the audacsity to bad mouth our sportiung teams when they dont do a damn thing to try and help our athletics by supporting them. I also am a somewhat OSU fan, i will root for them say if they are going to win a national title, but I will always be BG first.

Thing like the carnivals before the game did great things for student attendance. Sadly, there has been a noticeable shift away from getting students to games this year and I think anyone on-campus can attest to that. I've more than once experienced students being treated like garbage at sporting events, so hopefully that changes.

Well ask them why if they love those schools so much more than this place, then why aren't they attending those universitys instead? And when they reply that they couldn't get in or couldn't afford it or their programs didn't have good enough standards for them, ask them why they would root for a school who doesn't want them or isn't even good enough for them to attend.

I watched OSU growing up cuz it was the ONLY school in Ohio that was ever on TV, radio and in the papers. My grandfather played hoops at OSU back in the 1930's so he influenced me as well. But once my dad and mom started telling me about BGSU and taking me to football games in the early 80's, I started following BG football.

I didn't attend OSU...I attended BGSU and BG is the only school I'll ever root for. I, personally, don't care for OSU and the majority of their fans and OSU no bearing on how BG does except when they play on the field, ice, court, diamond...ect.

I'll be in the Shoe again this year, just like 1992, 1997 and 2003. And I expect BG to win, like always.

Those are good questions to be asking. Another good question to ask would be why do they just assume that BG sports teams suck? I can't tell you how many people I've talked to who say they root for OSU or Michigan over BG just because OSU/scUM are great schools with great traditions, and BG's teams stink. I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that people heard about how good our football team was supposed to be and they listen to the "experts" who talked about how much we sucked. But that's just the point. We had a bad year and still had a winning record. Even with all the people we lost off the offense from last year, the absolute worst I can see us going next year is 7-5 when you consider the given wins against Kent State, Fuffalo, Eastern Michigan, Ohio, and Temple.

If your friend was a real OSU fan or a real BG fan, he wouldn't have scheduled his wedding on the day of an OSU game against BG. Most in C-bus know not to schedule weddings on the day of home games (hard to get hotel rooms and guests to come), or on the day of big away games (i.e. Michigan, Penn State).

As for the comments about BG clothing, Paul Krebs, to his credit has increased sales of BG merchandise during his time as AD. He noticed when he first came to BG that there was more OSU, Michigan, Notre Dame stuff being worn than BG stuff. School spirit starts at home and getting the students to where BG stuff and going to BG games will eventually lead students to attending games as alumni. Also, winning helps out a lot. Marshall has no problem putting butts in seats, and Huntington isn't exactly a huge town. May be a bit bigger than BG, but not quite as big as Toledo.

As for freshmen wearing cloths from other schools, you have to remember they are freshmen. A year ago, they were still trying to get accepted into school and probably undecided. Also, they probably had picked up clothes from all of the schools they visited. I remember having sweats from the time I went to OU for basketball camp. Now it is a rag, or my dad uses it for bedding for the animals at his vet clinic.
