OK, where is TG1996 with the obvious answer for these jokers?

I don't know where TG is, but I could wager a few guesses (for his sake, I won't). :P

As for the jokers in this thread, all I can say is get over yourselves. Seriously. You will know what you need to know when you need to know it, I'm sure. I know, I know - the suspense is killing you. But, if you recall, we didn't even know that Paul was a candidate at UNM until a week/week and a half before his hiring was announced. Unless you fancy BGSU different than UNM or any other major university in the country, I would expect the timeline to be somewhat similar if I were you.

I think going with your instinct would have been right on in this case, BO... WHEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!

As for an "obvious" answer, I heard that Moe Ankney threw down a hellified version of the Poe Ditch Rat for basketball, hockey, volleyball and perhaps tennis, and he's the frontrunner.

After that, I don't know much, but after watching that "Beer League" trailer for the 50th time... I'll be pissed if Artie Lange isn't the next AD at BGSU.

Since the last two AD's have been BG alumni, don't be surprised if the third one is as well. My bet is on Tom Hof at OSU, of course, I also predicted he would get it before. That was before I knew Krebs was a BG grad. Hof knows how to raise BiGmoney and build things. That is one more thing than Krebs knew. Hof's dad was the former Alumni Director and VP of Development at BG. Hof himself served on the Alumni Board of Directors in the mid-90's, and comes back periodically for events, as he has a number of friends and family in the area. Of course, the stumbling block might be that new OSU AD Gene Smith has given him more responsibilities and more money. He might end up taking a pay cut to come to BG.

Another option might be David Lichtenstein. He is assistant AD at Morehead State in Kentucky. He was a one time marketing director at Northern Illinois and has also been at New Mexico State, North Dakota State, and was a grad student at OSU. He is from Louisiana, went to Tulane, until they cut men's swimming, then graduated from Arkansas-Little Rock. Smart guy. Not always media savey, but smart. He would be the wild card.

Of course, if I was really a betting man, I would also look to two things that we haven't considered - race and sex. Don't be surprised to see a black male or female or a white female AD named. In Columbus, we have a black male mayor, black female superintendent of schools, white female president at OSU, black AD, black police chief and fire chief. Columbus is supposedly conservative, but the diversity of the high profile public figures belies that. BG is supposed to be conservative, but we have an african-american president. He along with a black male Board of Trustee member are the only ones of color in significant leadership. Don't be surprised if a person of color or female is named as AD. It would help BG in national profile more than one would ever imagine.

I heard the department asked Janna Blais to interview for the job but she wasn't sure she wanted it.

David Sayler is also interested in the job.

I don't blame her. She has two young children, with the youngest being an infant!!!

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Shelley Applebaum is another possibility. She's a BG grad, (and grew up in BG) spent time at UT and is now an assistant at Michigan State, I believe. I don't know what she's been responsible for handling. Raising money would seem to be a key attribute for any candidate.

These guys think her sister Bonita would be a much better candidate:

But seriously, she spent time here, too, but I forget in exactly what capacity. "Associate AD" of something or other...

Here's what I found on Michigan State's site ... She is one of four Senior Associate AD's at MSU (her title is Senior Associate AD/Senior Women's Administrator):
Appelbaum has served as senior women's administrator at Michigan State since January 1999. She has sport supervisory responsibilities for baseball, women's basketball, ice hockey, men's and women's soccer, softball and volleyball. In addition, Appelbaum also oversees human resources, gender equity, diversity and strategic planning initiatives. She serves on the NCAA Women's Soccer Committee and is an NCAA Peer Reviewer. In addition, Appelbaum is involved with numerous institutional, Big Ten and CCHA committees. She received MSU's Outstanding University Professional Woman Award in 2003.

Appelbaum arrived at MSU after spending four years (1994-98) as the senior associate athletics director and senior women's administrator at Bowling Green. She previously held the position of assistant athletics director for academic support programs at Toledo from 1990-94. Appelbaum graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in education from Bowling Green in 1984 and earned her master's degree in education from Toledo in 1990.

We can't have a flip-flopper as an AD. She couldn't have taken athletics that seriously as a student if she went to Toledo for her masters. Thats worse than sayiing something nice about a UT poster on a BG forum. Its an outrage. Just shows how crazy women really are.

Sorry, but that's not gonna happen. We care too much about the University.

As for the candidate possibilities mentioned, Tom Hof stands out by a mile. Besides being an alum, he's a fundraiser extraordinaire which should be our #1 priority as a department right now with the facility issues. He's also an extremely genuine and professional person.

Any candidate with multi-year connections with the UT athletic department should be disqualified. Other strong ties to MAC schools can be rationalized, but not our biggest rival and competitor. Any consideration beyond the simple ability to do the job shouldn't be a factor, either.
