Re: Omar's chance!
Hold on. You are fast forwarding and up to assumptions. He just wrecked his future? There's no real facts that say his future is over, right? Last I heard was he is in serious, but stable condition. Going under surgery, for a broken jaw.gayfalcon wrote:I am a native of Pittsburgh and a Steelers fan based on my geographical heritage so I can be bitter and cynical!
Big Ben is worth a fortune -- he just wrecked his future. Lemme say what a dumba$$. Let's hope he gets better, but on the good side, Omar has a better chance moving up in the QB race.
Cowher is not the best judge of QB material and is stubborn about stickin' with who he's got -- see Slash for this example.
So Omar's chances have gone way up in my Steeler rootin' opinion.

Also, even if the Steelers are losing Ben for part of the season, etc..doesn't mean Omar is moving up. Hardly. He is still in the developmental stage. The Steelers would find a replacement. If anything, Omar would go to the practice squad while they sign another QB.

Even if Ben were to miss the opening of the NFL season (which I highly doubt), I bet Cowher would either:
a: go sign a veteran Quarterback who at the very least would provide back-up for Batch. I don't think you open the season with a rookie like Omar as your back-up.
B: go sign Tommy Maddox to serve as a back-up until Ben is ready.

Roethlisberger lost most of his teeth, fractured his left sinus cavity bone, suffered a nine-inch laceration to the back of his head and a broken jaw, and severely injured both of his knees when he hit the ground, police said.

Kerry Collins is available, as are Tim Couch and a handful of others. Omar will not be seeing the field this year unless Ben starts taking more QBs on joyrides.

Looking at the video of the car, he was about a foot left from not having a windshield to fly over, rather leave his face print on the passenger side window. Dude's lucky to be alive.
Of course, as if he wasn't already attractive to the Findlay women, the lack of teeth just makes him more so.

At least he'll be able to relate to most of the fan base now too.
Silver lining folks.

Wow. As much as I hate the Steelers, but love Omar, and as much as I will never get over what Big Ben did to us in 2003 (Twice) I cannot even believe discussion of the next starting quarterback for Pittsburgh is even taking place right now. And I think for a guy who is seriously injured and in surgery, the term dumbass is totally uncalled for. Obviously you can debate the pro's and con's of Ben's personal decisions relating to his career, but at this juncture criticism is totaly unclassy. Wait until he is ok to open that discussion, I mean he got rushed into emergency surgery. Everything else seems secondary. Imagine if this happened to Josh Harris. Ok, he isn't nearly as big a name as Ben, but I think if this accident hit closer to BG you would be singing a different tune. I mean, some of you are actually making jokes about his injuries? I am stunned, what is wrong with you? I just thought it was really disappointing to come on here and see that football and sarcasm are actually part of the discussion while a man's life was in danger. Whether you agree with him riding a motorcycle or not, or like him or not, what's done is done, and without calling anyone out in particular, I have observed a total lack of class. I want Omar to succeed in the NFL as much as anyone, but this is not the way it should come. I guarantee Omar isn't viewing this as an opportunity, but is only concerned for his teammate, and I can't believe anyone else would think otherwise. It is just deflating for me to see BG fans and alums act in such a manner.
I think I'm pretty conservative when it comes to this type of thing, but I have to disagree with you here. I would call Len Bias a dumbass, just like I called Kellen Winslow Jr. a dumbass.NY-BG-FAN wrote:And I think for a guy who is seriously injured and in surgery, the term dumbass is totally uncalled for.
Big Ben had been warned - repeatedly - about doing this. Then he saw what happened to Winslow. Yet, there he is. Dumbass pretty much sums it up.
