I still can't believe he played as much as he did last year with the injuries he had. I will support Corey in any decision he will make about his playing future.
Does anyone know about what it takes to get a medical redshirt. If it will take 8 weeks maybe he should stay away all year. I know it can be hard to get that medical redshirt and a 6th year unless you are from Oklahoma and have a chance at the heisman. Or did they change that rule so you only really have 5 years to complete 4. Corey will be doing some soul searching in the next couple of weeks. This has broken his heart as well as mine.
Spart, I'm sure it must be hard for you to watch Corey get hurt, and I can understand you wanting to contemplate him hanging it up. My brother was a gymnast through college and had a list of major injuries like Corey. After a horrible injury his freshman year during practice he had to make that decision as well, and I know it was quite hard on him. He quit his soph. year but was able to comeback his junior year (a good decision has he was part of a Natl Champion team) though in a very limited role only competing in one event. The damage from that injury is still present, and always will be.
Corey's health for the rest of his life his definitely more important than catching passes. I really hope he can get a medical redshirt so he can keep his options open longer before having to make that tough decision.
Corey's a tough kid and I know he wants to see the field every bit as badly as we want to see him out there, but I can't stress enough that we want to see out there at 100%. If he needs eight weeks....taking the year might not be such a bad idea. Here's a link to the NCAA site with some info on what is actually called a "hardship waiver"
How pathetic is it that I'm used to so many key players on all my favorite football teams disappearing before the season starts, whether it be football injuries, leaving early for the NFL, mysterious retirements, motorcycles, etc?
Let's hope for a full recovery and that medical redshirt, if he wants it.
This is just plain nasty. I was so hoping Corey wasn't going be hit with a injury bugs, but apparently it has. Well, time for Ken Brantly II and some other freshman to step up big time then.
Soul searching is never a bad thing at any stage of the game. Whatever his decision will be the best decision for him. He's a smart kid with a solid core*. People like that always seem to land on their feet.
I wish him all the best and also support him in his endeavors. After all, he is a Falcon.

Well stated RUIT!! Couldn't have said it better. Best of luck to Corey. I have always said, " What doesn't kill us, makes us stronger!!" Sounds corny, but it's always been true for me.
Spart, we'll be thinking of you and your family. Keep us posted on his progress!!

It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. Having heard the "official" word, I echo the thoughts of most of the rest here. It's a tough blow to the Falcons, but that's not all that important. I'd love to see Corey back on the field as soon as possible, but if he can't go for health reasons or just doesn't think its best for him to keep risking his body, no one can fault him for that.
Here's to a speedy recovery!!

This is actually his third major injury in less than a year. Talk about snake bit. Two out of the three have happened in practice. He was having a great summer camp.
I was at Marietta this weekend watching my youngest in a scrimmage. He is a freshman wide receiver for them.

Thanks for posting that. Our hearts go out, and we're behind Corey all the way.
Thanks for the update. Corey is such a tough, gutsy kid and to see this happen is difficult. I can't begin to say how sorry I am to see it happen. It just plain sucks.
Whatever decision Corey feels is best, everyone here will support him. After all, it's his body and he's gotta do what he feels is best for him. No matter what, he'll ALWAYS be a Falcon.
In my selfish mind, I hope he can get a medical redshirt and come back. After the flashes of brilliance we've seen from him, I was geeked to see the total package this year.
God bless you guys and Corey? We love ya, bro.

Sorry to hear about this and I am sure Cory is disappointed to be injured again. I would hate to see someone so talented have to walk away at this stage of the game without even getting a real chance to compete. Any chance he might think of switching back to defense? Maybe less chance of getting hurt when delivering the blows instead of receiving them. Just a thought.

This sounds like a great opportunity for a true freshman to make a contribution. The write-up on this kid was pretty good when they signed him, lots of speed. He wouldn’t be the first true freshman to step in at WR. Has anyone heard anything about him?
Spart: Very sorry to hear about this setback, and I join the others in wishing for a speedy recovery. I can only imagine how frustrating it must be for both of you.
Stipulating that football is a physical sport, injuries can happen at any time and that players need to practice in game-like conditions to prepare for the season, can Coach Brandon sequester Turner, Barnes, Macon, Lichtensteiger, Parks, White and Smith from now until maybe the Wisconsin game?

KPA,
I remember reading somewhere that Coach Brandon said Zach would ne getting some PT this year. Seems like it will definitely happen with Corey getting injured.
