The Blade aritcle reported it as a dislocated left (not-throwing) shoulder.

As far as I know (what I was told) it is dislocated, i mispoke when I said separated and realized it when I woke up. I apologize

At the same time, it's good news b/c it's not as severe of an injury, so hopefully he'll be back in a game or two.

Dislocated, seperated, neither sounds good. I just hope he can recover soon and can get be back out there again. Get better fast AT!

Dislocations really aren't that bad. It is a common injury of the high impact sport of swimming. In fact I ended up with both of mine dislocated in high school from swimming, they hurt while practicing and after, but not always that painful other wise. It is pretty easy for a chiropracter to put a dislocated shoulder back in. I would go get mine re-set usually a day or two before a meet. They tend to re-occurr after the first time due to the losening of the tendons that hold the shoulder in. AT will probably start some bungee cord excercises to try and strengthen his shoulder back.

From my experiences, if it is just a normal dislocated shoulder I would think there is a good chance AT could play on saturday.

a separation messes up the ligaments and tendons in the shoulder and a dislocation just pops it out of the sockett. I separated my right one in high school playin hockey and it still hurts to throw a baseball or football and that was 5 years ago.

my non-medical guess is it has to do with what parts of muscles/tendons/other gooey stuff stays intact. Seems like a dislocation has everything in place, but the upper arm bone pops out of socket, where a separation is a similar injury, but with more damage to the stuff that holds the joint in place.

In that case, the answer is purely an administrative issue for the doctor who lodges the claim with insurers, on the basis that complexity compounds cost. I understand now.

Correct. To fix a dislocation really just requires a Dr to take a hold of the arm at the elbow and push/pull it up in to the socket. My shoulder usually went back in pretty easily. Normally with a dislocation you don't even need to wear a sling or any sort of wrap. My dad seperated his should playing in an alumni rugby match at Maimi about 15yrs ago, it required him to wear a sling for several weeks.

Of course now that AT has a dislocated shoulder injury he can start impersonating Mel Gibson and try to escape from a straight jacket for a party trick.

as long as the dislocation dosen't tear the labrum (the cuplike muscle that holds the shoulder ball in socket) then a dislocation isn't too bad. I dislocated and tore my labrum of my throwing arm which required surgery. I also seperated my left shoulder and that hurt real real bad for a long time but i still played through it, it all just kind of depends on the degree of seperation or dislocation.

Comming on here to poke at us is annoying but fine. Just have enough decency and respect to do it in a thread that we are not discussing someones health. At least have the much class.
