The solution is to reach out to the neighboring cities and counties around Bowling Green in an effort to create a regional "sphere of influence" where Bowling Green is the #1 team. Place advertisments in Hancock, Sandusky, Henry, Defiance, Hancock, and Allen counties and really get people in the know about our teams. I mean for crying out loud, you have a town just 25 minutes west of BG (Napoleon) where nobody gives a crap about the Falcons. That has to become our area if we are to help our attendance.Bleeding Orange wrote:Yeah, this post was totally and completely out of line. A retraction is in order. Outrageous, I would call it.
Some of you want to sit here and debate who is the problem with attendance (students/townies/etc.), but no one seems to want to debate who might be the solution. I assure you that the solution is not represented by either the student or civilian population of Bowling Green, Oh...
Will the townies screw us?

Uhh, here goes. I take any and all blame for the initial post of this thread, it was wrong, and it was an unnecessary shot at the people living in Bowling Green. Although I realize that a lot of these people do not support Bowling Green State University and/or Falcon Athletics, it is their right to do so. I also realize that taking shots at the people within Bowling Green for lack of support is not the best way to build support for the university or our teams. The post was irresponsible and disrespectful, and I am sorry for making the post in the first place.Bleeding Orange wrote:You're learning! I've lived around the area all of my life. From what I gather, people don't hate BGSU (but BGSU has never really given the area a real reason to love them). I, myself, love BGSU, but you can imagine why some don't. First of all, BGSU is competing with two of the best programs in the country (OSU and UM) and whether people want to admit it or not, that really hurts. People can be fans of both, but 99 times out of 100, people will choose to stay home and watch those games. Isn't that evident when both draw over 100,000 and BG draws 15,000 on a good day? Also, BGSU hasn't recruited too much local talent, so people aren't here watching those people from those towns across NW Ohio. I'm not saying they even had a chance in some cases, but it would be real nice to see some players on the team from around here. There were four OHSAA state title teams from the NW Ohio area last year (Tol. Central Cath., Patrick Henry, Coldwater, Delphos St. Johns), and BG did not get one senior from any of the squads (can't tell me that there weren't ANY players worthy). Also, there has not been a big push to improve facilities at BG for 30 years, now all of a sudden it is huge...obviously that is going to happen. The ice arena, football stadium, and arena were all built w/in seven years of one another and that was an awful long time ago. Get people excited, make people want to see a game from your stadium/arena...it helps to create that sense of "awe" from the fans. The people who go as kids and are amazed, they are likely to come back when they get older...BGSU has to make that happen and I'm sure they are on their way to doing that, but it will take a while to upgrade everything. There are also a lot more reasons why people don't go to games, and it gets worse as time passes. For one, it's just too easy to just sit at home and watch 10 different games on Saturday from around the country, or to sit and watch ESPN cover the game on Tuesdays. It's the nature of the beast. What's good for one thing is bad for another.

Actually, I'm going to leave it. You've apologized appropriately and should be off the hook, but I think it's pretty good discussion and it seems to be rallying people (for a change).bgsufalcon24 wrote: Somebody can now get rid of this thread.
