My preference would be 6 p.m. starts early in the season and 1 p.m. starts later.
There is a reason many northern college football stadiums went without permanent lighting for so long. It's rarely too hot to play a game, and it's frequently awfully cold.
So that would be my preference -- but we should never try to go head to head with Ohio State and we need to make sacrafices to get on ESPN.
So, despite my preferences, we are at the mercy of other factors.
