I think they do a pretty good job of deals for families, and prices are generally lower than anything you'll find in D-1A football. Even when they jack them up for the bigger games, it's still pretty reasonable.tim94064 wrote:A good place to start would be to lower ticket prices, so families could afford to go....

There are always ticket deals. You can get a flex pack and save a buck or two on tickets. You can often times get a pepsi can and get a four pack of tickets, pepsi, and hot dog for forty bucks. I went to the Buffalo game and paid $8 a ticket as I had a current student purchase "friends" tickets for the steal of a price.tim94064 wrote:I think the attendance speaks for itself.....17.00 a ticket to see Buffalo just doesn't cut it.
There is no better value in Division I athletics than M.A.C. sports and more specifically BG sports- especially when we have a team getting national rankings and pub.

agreed ~ they are trying with their different promotions, but you have to make it easy for the average fan that doesn't have your loyality.
Over the last fifteen years, the atletic department has not been sensitive to ticket prices, and just raised prices to generate more income. Now those prices are such, that they have priced out many of the average fans.
This is not an issue of whether it is a great deal for D-1.....the issue is, fans in the stands, and what they are willing to spend to get there.
Again, the attendance at Basketball, Hockey, and Football speaks for itself.

I see what you're saying, Tim. But IMO, price is one of the smallest reasons why our attendance has been poor. There are about ten things in line before price that have a much bigger impact on attendance.
Like it's been said before, our prices are very very reasonable. I'm sorry that you think it's too expensive for you to attend, but I think you're in the minority there. If 15 dollars is too much for somebody to come see a football game, there's nothing the university can do about that.

Our attendance problems are not price driven. We've tried discounting for years, and I haven't seen anything ever alter the fundamental formula that a winning Falcon team, or a team playing UT or Miami in decent weather draws, and little else. We simply do not have the fan base that will come out in bad weather to watch us play Kent State when we are 4-8. Our fans (by and large) don't have that kind of relationship with our team. Until that gets addressed, we're going to continue the way we have been.

Our prices are VERY affordable for events. Compare the prices at BGSU to any other D-1 school, even other MAC schools and you will see how affordable the prices really are. I went to a mens bb game against Akron for $5 a ticket! The promotion was anyone wearing an orange BGSU shirt got $5 general admission tickets. That was seriously awesome, even though the team lost. Last year, my chairback season tickets for football cost me $75 each. Plus free Clash in Cleveland tickets. Great deal in my opinion.

I have no problem with the prices of football tickets. $15 for a football game is reasonable and makes plenty of sense.
I do think that our ticket prices have gone up too fast for basketball/hockey. They may still be bargains as far as D1 sporting events go, but with the product that we've put on the court/ice lately it's real hard to justify spending $11 a ticket for those events.
They've had a couple of deals to get into the men's hoops games for $5, and those are great. You'll notice that at the Akron game it was $5, and it brought in a huge crowd. Unfortunately a good deal of that crowd left early and everyone who stuck around saw us get manhandled by a good Akron team. How many of those folks will be back?
Basketball & Hockey suffer from the same problems. Not only are we bad in both sports we're actually boring as hell to watch. In Hockey we flat out cannot score a goal and are hoping that we will squeak a win or tie at 1-0, 1-1. The Hoops team has the same problems, losing and doing so in a boring fashion. Tough to make the case to keep increasing the ticket prices when the product has been awful, IMO.
Overall though I don't have much problem with our ticket prices. I still attend almost every hoops game, all the football games, and a couple hockey games a year as well. Like somebody said, if you cannot afford $50-60 to take your family to the football game there isn't much the University can do...you can only lower the prices so much.
