Personally I enjoy hearing the cannon at home games and I really enjoy the silence of the cannons at the away games.

I usually wear a helmet when I skate. I've had one bad fall in 15 years of skating, but I have no way of judging the experience level of those skating and biking around me. Their mistakes could cost me

Funny story about that cannon... my freshman year and my first BG football game and i go to the game rather intoxicated and am walking down near the southwest corner of the stadium, i had a really bad loogie in my mouth and that darn cannon goes off!! I spit all over the girl in front of me on her back and just walk away as fast as possible. I am not responsible for that if that girl is reading this post!

My 4 and 5 year old boys love the cannon. That's all they talk about. I took my 5 year old to a Browns game and all he wanted to see was the cannon. Long live the cannon!

Warthog wrote:I read on ESPN a few weeks ago, I think it was Gene Wojochowski (sp? ), was suggesteing the cannon thing should be banned from games. Is it a good idea having explosives used around so many people? I understand his point and for the most part agree. The cannon really doesn't add anything to the game experience, so for safety's sake, I would prefer it to go away as well.

I disagree. Ask most people and they will tell you the cannon does add something to the game. It is called tradition. Even though, BG has not had the cannon very long, it is something fans can talk about and expect to be there. Again, most will tell you they enjoy watching it fired after we score. A tradition I hope will last.

Also, there is a greater chance a grill will blow up or a porta-potty overflow and injure someone during a tailgate then an incident with the cannon. The amount of powder and the charge used is pretty small. A full small propane tank would cause more damage than the cannon's inert charge.

It is not a 155mm howitzer.

I would hate to tell FREAK he could no longer use his grill because of a safety risk.

Kind of fun to also watch the refs jump when they fire it as well.

If anyone is concerned about the safety of the cannon, or at the tailgates, I will lend you my ballistic helmet, some earplugs, body armor & safety glasses. [/img]

You want tradition???? How about bringing back the Victory Bell.

As a child growing up in BG I had very similar memories to the Bell as some of the poster's childrend have mentioned regarding the cannon. I thought it would be cool to go out and ring that bell during a big win over TU and the like.

Cannon is ok, but if it is tradition you speak of , bring back the VICTORY BELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No offense to the cannon, but I'd be all about a victory bell. I never even knew BG had one at one point but yeah, bring that back!!

I am worried about the safety issue of the bell. Someone could get hurt ringing it without the proper training.

"That would be awesome. To have it do it's own screech would be cool too while it's flying through. We could mic it and get rid of the one they play now!!"

Of course they didn't play the Falcon screech much at the Ball State game when we had a first down. When they did finally decide to play it they played it for a Ball State first down.

I did notice that too, just didn't want to ruffle any feathers and bring it up here. With all the problems the announcer is having, now the sound guy is screwing up...

I'd like the cannon a whole bunch more if we shot a midget out of it. Better yet, shoot a midget through the goal posts.

Everybody loves midgets....

Midget Humor RULES!

Did you watch the SuperBowl pregame on MTV a few years ago where they dressed a midget up as a giant football? Then they kicked him through the goalpoasts into a vat of baked beans.

BRILLIANT! :)

I like big guns and I can't lie. You other brothers can't deny, that when a big smoke ring gets in your face you get......really excited for BGSU football.

A gattling gun might have been nice. Fire a blank round for every point scored.

How about adding some color to the smoke? Orange smoke?

I still miss the frat bell they used. What did become of that thing? The last I saw, it was being towed away from the stadium. Might have been nice to mount it someplace, ring it at the start of the fourth quarter "for whom the bell tolls."

I LIKE the idea of food being included. We could do a "midget football" toss onto a giant Marco's pizza as part of the halftime show. Whoever get's the midget closest to the center wins free pizza!
