Some things you can't really see in that photo, but that I understand are true:
1. Gaedel was a St. Louis Brown, and the opposing team was the Detroit Tigers. I forget the name of the pitcher, but he tried to hit that strike zone (which wasn't much taller than the ball) for the first pitch. After that, he was laughing too hard -- and you can see how high the balls were coming in.
2. I believe Eddie was wearing elvin-styled, curly-tipped cleats.
3. His uniform number was a fraction -- seven-eighths or something like that.
4. Eddie walked on four straight pitches and was replaced by a pinch runner, ending his major league career. The major leagues quickly passed a minimum height requirement after that.
