Part of the reason there was no turn out was because there was no advertisement anywhere. Who knew about it other than the people on this board? My guess is "0". There was nothing in the newspaper, nothing on the local Sports station. I would bet WLEC 1450 would have sent a reporter there and maybe caught a couple of interviews, along with the Sandusky Register (our local paper) but they didn't know the thing was going on. North Central Ohio is a stronghold for Buckeye fans also.

As far as the logo/turf field subject... I really don't care, as long as the Falcons win on whatever the field is.

I'm not sure about the local media coverage. Dan Angelo at the Register is not to high on BG or the MAC. Marc Fogg, the sports director on WLEC regularly rags on BGSU and the MAC every chance he gets. I agree it was poorly advertised. I think they should have sent invites out to all the area coaches, athletic directors and taken out some ads as well. Maybe next year we can suggest that!

That was a discussion at our table as well in Defiance. I was sitting with the sponsors of the event and they said there was little to no advertising. I guess some postcards were mailed, but that is it.

FWIW, all Falcon Club members received a rather ornate notice for these events. Because of my schedule, the only one I'll be able to make it to is the Cleveland event, but these are great opportunities for everyone to get to know the people that drive our program. If I could, I'd go to all of them.

I would suggest, humbly, that rather than complain about the lack of advertising, everyone be proactive and join the FC. The FC does a phenomenal job of communicating with their members, so you wouldn't miss a thing. Plus, it isn't nearly as expensive to join as you might think. Give what you can give, but if you can't give a whole lot, join at the minimum level as every little bit helps. Too often with these things I think people within our community only think about what they, personally, are getting out of their contributions, be they in the form of season tickets or FC donations. Instead, I think we all need to think about what our student athletes are getting from our donations.*

* DISCLAIMER: I do not work for the Falcon Club. I just believe in it.

Matt... I'm more suggesting that they do some advertising to the general public. I know tons of "casual" BG fans who knew nothing about it. A simple newspaper ad, radio ads, etc. to get people there would have been great. The general public is who we need to get fired up about the sports, since they are the ones that need to start coming to stuff. The people that know about/are members of the Falcon Club are not the target demo on these tour events, IMHO. They had a great event last night in Defiance, and I'm sure it would have been even better if there were more casual fans there.

I also know that the guys who do the afternoon drive time show on 1450 are Toledo grads. That may have a little to do with it also.

The new helmets are supposedly like the ones on the "GRIT IRON" splash page at bgsufalcons.com. The new style interlocking BG (without the peekaboo) on the sides. While I'm among the group that's not happy with the ditching of LT, I think it still brings a classic look to the helmets.

I have no clue about unis.

Which brown jerseys? Those crappy brown and white ones? Or something new with all of our colors in them?

I somewhat prefer the latter. The brown and white ones were just too bland. There needs to be a orange stripe of some kind in there somewhere.

Destroy the grass and then make us look at that ugly retail logo...they better hope they wiin some games this year, because they're making it real tough to be a fan of this program.
Hammb, get an effin' grip. If you don't, I can't promise you anymore Nosferatu this season.
You bastard! :)

I'm having a hard time coming to grips with this new reality. I doubt I'll ever fully embrace it.

I don't like Field Turf. I think sports should be played on grass, period. I just don't like the fake stuff. If it helps the university build larger revenues that'd be about the only redeeming quality of it to me. Hopefully they do get HS playoff games and whatnot to get some extra use of it.

As for the logo, I'll never like that thing. It's UGLY. When it comes to logos I'm a traditionalist. Sure the LT falcon head hasn't been around forever, but it's been around all my life, and it's what I grew up with. I like simple logos, short sweet, and to the point. I just plain like our old logo. I dislike the new one. I didn't have a problem with it in the beginning, because it was supposed to be just retail stuff. Fine, no problem, I just don't buy anything with that ugly logo on there. Having another logo helped boost some merchandise sales, no problem. But when they start phasing out the old logo completely, that irritates me.

I'll still be there at all the games, I'll still be donating to the Falcon Club, and I'll still be hoping they finally get over that MAC championship hump, but right now they're making it tough on me. We've gotten worse each year for the past 3 seasons. We've ditched about the only thing that I really loved about the Doyt (Grass). Now it's starting to sound like we're completely phasing out the traditional logo.

Like I said, they're making it tough...
its faster just to say the dumbasses in the mkt dept are morons and the new logo is gay, and field turf is gay.
but im a simple :D
All we needed was a new fricking drainage system and as far as lots of venues onthe field go....im wondering ...where are all the people suposed to stay for the football mania were going to have...esp considering we can t even the toledo game when students are here to make a homefield advantage...but all these visiting teams and fans...guess they are all suposed to just drive and leave...or will they be staying in Toledo...
we should have keept the grass and started fricking work onthe new arena!!!!!

gee and since "new " is so good...mayb e the football players should all wear hellyes or those shoes with little lights on them...that would be so cool
