Something like that. I remember at least 3: Fleming, Suishan and a TE named Jason Van Damm. Blackney thought the recruiting in Ohio was getting congested and wanted to venture into a different territory. The northern recruiting migration stopped when Meyer and Co. got here.
Sorry to derail this, but Joe, what's the story here?

There was also Godfrey Lewis, RB, and Morty Bryce, DB. Bryce's dad was an olympic cyclist and Morty almost went that route as well. Then there was a guy from Alberta that played here, Pascal Kokke.
Pat Fleming is an excellent punter. That guy could put the ball anywhere he wanted anytime. His dad, Sam, was a cool guy to hang with as well.
Blackney recruited Canada pretty hard and a lot of that was due to Michael Ferragalli (sp?), his OC for a while. MF was an OC up in Canada in the CFL, IIRC.
Take off, eh?

As of the beginning ot the CFL season Fleming was still playing.
According to the 2000 media guide a little birdie sent me, that roster had 10 Canadians, most of which were mentioned here already... it also might have been the only time in college football history that a pair of brothers were 1-2 on the depth chart at long snapper, but I don't know that they keep that stat officially anywhere.

Very cool. I remember a few years ago we took the Freakings to Niagara Falls and was watching him punt for Ottawa.

That was a scene during the aftermath of the BCS national championship game last year. The dude in the middle wearing the OSU jersey and the buckeyes necklace is consoling his two buddies. In light of some of the asinine statements made in the "Why do you cheer for Ohio State" thread, I thought it would be apropos.
The sad thing is that Jim Tressel has always struck me as a stand-up guy, perhaps because he came from Youngstown State and knows that all the "THE Ohio State University" B.S. is just that. Some of their athletic department staff that I've met have been kind, classy and professional. It's just that 70-80% of their fan base happens to be myopic, arrogant jackasses.
(Hey, I thought of another Canadian! Former dual-threat QB David Azzi!)

That says it all right there. Although I'd push that number up to 80-90%.
Priceless Pic...GATOR CHOMP! BTW, is Hades getting cold? Believe it or not, the Akron Beacon Journal had ZERO articles on Zero State in today's edition. There were BiG stories about Akron and Kent State and the only mention of the cow college in Cbus was a very small paragraph about the Kent State/Zero State game on BTN.
I truly don't think I've ever enjoyed the sports page so much in one day.

OSU fans amuse me no end...it just boggles their minds that there are people with past or present ties to the state of Ohio that aren't fans of OSU. I was at a party at my sister's house down in South Lebanon last October. Some bozofound out I was from Michigan but had moved there from ohio...he just HAD to know if i rooted for OSU or Michigan. When I told him "neither...I spend my time and energy following my alam mater, BGSU...OSU and the U of M aren't really on the radar"you could almost see the gears grinding in his brain...it...did...not...compute.
Do people who drink Coke or pepsi wig out like that when they see someone drinking an RC cola?...do they even make RC cola anymore?
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Just returned from a job interview in Colorado. First question"So you root for the Buckeyes?" I explained that rooting for osu was more of a central Ohio thing and that everyone from Northwest Ohio rooted for the Rockets.
Interestingly, as I wandered around Pearl Street in Boulder UC stuff was number one in terms of collegiate wear, Ohio State stuff was a close second.

That picture is definitely not from the BCS title game last year.
I thought the fact they were wearing coats was a pretty good clue that picture wasn't from this year considering the game was played in a dome in Arizona where it was 70 degrees outside.
