Miami to switch sidelines

The issue of Miami having the students, but more importantly the band, behind the visitors bench has been a concern for some time. I had heard that is was actually an NCAA rule. So the band has actually moved to the North stands for a while and now they are slightly to the left of the visitor bench. They should be in the North endzone - MHO.
So I think the issue is really the Band - not the students.
The year before last - Miami was on the east sideline, but moved back to the west last year, because we season ticket holders want the team with us. Go figure.
The east stands are VERY close to the team bench - to the point we have actually stood there and talked to the players. It really is nice. We talked quite a bit to the Kent State punter last year before the start of the second half. We wished them luck - you know its the courteous thing to do - even my Miami friend was nice to the kid.
But you know what ..... there are a lot of a-holes out there who are going to show up at any event and make fools of themselves. Anyone tossing anything on the field should be removed from the stadium. Quite frankly, I was embarassed at the 2003 MAC Championship game by some of our students. We were on the field at the end of the game and there were some VERY drunk BG students - if I remember correctly one puked on the field. Nice. (Not that I did not drink until I puked - I did, but you know - you get older and.......)
My friend that played at Miami told me he kept his helmet on during a game at OU because the students were throwing AA batteries at them.

In previous years the stands were ridiciliously close to the sidelines, this isn't the case anymore, you can't just reach over and touch a player, there is a good bit of seperation.
But I digress, Im hoping for a well played game, few if any injuries, a nice DRY day, with good tailgating and a good experience overall.

I wholeheartly disagree. Compared to the West stands - the East stands are right on top of the bench and this is exaggerated by the accessible seating/ standing area in front of the risers.redskins4ever wrote:In previous years the stands were ridiciliously close to the sidelines, this isn't the case anymore, you can't just reach over and touch a player, there is a good bit of seperation.
Jessica Alba is god's gift to all men.Falconfreak90 wrote:Dang. No wonder hammb and a few others around here are always talking about her. What a hottie...redskins4ever wrote:jessica alba
If only should would wear less clothing and do less acting*...the world would be a better place.
* I could not think of another term for what Ms. Alba does in those movies. I do realize that to call it acting is quite the stretch, but in the end who cares? She's got a bikini or bra & panty scene in nearly every movie, so it's all good

I doubt the MAC would care where the Miami students sit if there was a 20-foot tall chain link fence on that side of the field.

I'm not pointing fingers. But I do tend to think this is about more than protecting players' feelings.

Have you been on that side? Have you seen the walls? The walkways? Would you like a moat? I swear its like we've all woken up one day and decided that we should all walk around on pillows and be friendly and nice to each other? Football is a collision sport that is violent. Those who aren't there to watch the game and decide to make trouble should be tossed.Tech83 wrote:I wholeheartly disagree. Im so frustrated with stupid rules that are made souly for the purpose of making rules.
The band to the end of the stands, fine, I can agree to that.
But my argument time and again is that students in MAC school are season ticket holders, therefor they should be given the same rights as anyone else. But thats not what happens, they are moved around and subjected to age discrimination because they actually do something, instead of sitting on their hands. Its stupid, stupid, stupid. Give me a single instance where a player was hurt by a fan?
I welcome the BGSU fans behind Miami's bench, Im not going to discriminate, make all the noise you want, because the only people that need to know what is going on, are the 11 guys in the middle of the field.

When I worked in BG's Athletic department... The second year with Urban, they got decent numbers 4-7K per game, but it was always been about the opponent. Bad opponent bad turnout, and when there was a good or great opponent you'd get the same. See NIU vs. BG.... damn that was a great game to be at... any MAC's school goal should be to Get GAMEDAY to their campus.
How have they done it this year at Miami? Brute force. Just lots of knocking on doors, pumping the campus, Im not there now, but I think its just the work of the SID office at Miami. It also has helped that the first game was against an arch rival, and the most recent game was with parents day weekend and a BCS foe. I wouldn't expect as many students this weekend, but I could be wrong. There is really no place to go on weekends, so the lack of options always make going to the football game a nice choice, even if most students leave at halftime.
