Not this year, though I believe they're recommending (if not requiring) that you have a copy of your birth certificate and maybe another piece of ID.

I just got off my lazy azz and did some research....because I know they are planning on moving towards passports to go between the US, Canada and Mexico

Apparently, the govt is shooting for Jan 31, 2008, so we should just be safe.

No passport as long as you're driving. If you're flying into Toronto you will still need a passport. If you're driving in you'll need a photo-ID and a proof of citizenship. I already got my birth certificate dug out and ready to go.

i asked my mom to find my birth certificate today!! i'm so hoping this is our bowl game!

I heard that BG is one of the best MAC schools to travel to away games, is that true or just rumor?

We bought a lot of tickets and traveled extremely well for both the Motor City and GMAC bowls. Ball State hasn't been to a bowl since 1996, so there's no recent evidence whatsoever regarding how they'd travel.

Even if we lost to UT, we'd still both be 7-5 and their biggest trump card is almost beating the worst Nebraska team in 60 years.
That would be awesome if we had a chance at going to the Motor City Bowl, which last I checked we don't unless we win the Mac Championship. I don't remember our GMAC Bowl attendance being something to write home about though. I'll believe we have a bowl bid when we beat UT and have an official invite from a bowl committee.
It doesn't matter. Bowl attendence is bowl attendence. The fact we bought tickets and traveled when we had our opportunity is what counts.

As for the GMAC Bowl, we sold our share of tickets and had a impressive traveling party given that the game was in Alabama. Anyone who attended like myself would tell you it was a blast and they'd go back in a second. The paid attendence was also 40,000+ if I recall but a lot of people stayed home due to the driving rainstorm.

The idea that Ball State is a lock if we both finish with identical records is a joke. As h2oville said, a scandal-ridden institution with an apathetic fan base and no marquee non-conference wins is not exactly something to be afraid of.

If you are awaiting your passport, you can still fly into Canada, but it is a pain in the ass.

The US govenment site says you need proof that you applied for your passport and a photo ID to travel. In Canada, they hassled me because I just had a license with my proof that I applied for a passport. Definitely bring a birth cerrtificate or believe it or not a voter registration card.

This is correct. After 1/31/08, neither the US or Canada will accept oral declarations of citizenship. But I was advised to have a birth certificate and driver's license and we will be fine. The Freaklings will be able to go to Toronto but probably not Mobile or Vegas.

If I had the dough I'd be there, but the start time is terrible for me as I will likely be busy that early in the day. Whoever decided on a 2:30pm start time on a WEEK DAY is clearly a few slices short of loaf.
FB,
So "IF you had the dough" (can get in for $7 or so), and you'll be "busy" that "early" in the day (mid - afternoon), I don't get the feeling that it's a JOB that's holding you back.... but that's OK, your track record of seeing half games for "free" might still hold up!

Oh! And some of us might find the time to travel 2 1/2 hrs to get to BG for this game....but we're NOT "busy" quite obviously.

I just flew back from Halifax and boy....

Anyway, get a passport if you can. They seem to expediate getting in and out of the country and they are rock solid ID for using credit cards or entering bars or whatever else you may need ID for...And you look so James Bond pulling it out of your tux breast pocket and presenting it casually.

I'm pretty sure they jack the prices up for the UT game, thats what they've always done in the past. But cheap or expensive tix or not I'll likely be helping family move all day. I wonder if anyone in the Athletic Dept. has heard of 6pm start times , you know one that makes sense to bring the most amount of people.

ESPN made the start time. ESPN wanted to put the game on one of its channels and as part of the agreement it has with the MAC, they choose what day and what time to play the game that fits best with their TV schedule. BG's athletic department had nothing to do with the kickoff time.

Oh, you mean the 6pm start times we had for our games against WKU and Ohio? It's not like the athletic department's never heard of a 6pm start, geez.

The prices will not be jacked up for this game. They will be the same price as every other game this year.
