Tulsa would be the first good team we beat this year. Of course they should be favored.
Having said that, I think we have a good chance to win. Turnovers will decide the outcome. Paul Smith has been prolific, but he hasn't been '04 Omar. He will take chances, and we need to pick him a couple times.

2004 Omar:
G Eff. comp/att/int % Yrds. Td long Avg.
Jacobs, Omar 12 167.20 462-309-4 66.9 4002 41 58 333.5
2007 Smith:
Smith, Paul 12 164.90 444-272-16 61.3 4327 39 75 360.6
Just by the numbers, everyone can decide for themselves. It's a good point about the interceptions, I think he threw 2-3 more in their conf. championship game, along with 3 more TD's. Other than that, it sure looks like Omaresque numbers to me. Their offense looks scary good just looking at their stats. This one really could come down to who makes the fewest turnovers and mistakes.

Tulsa's wins: Louisiana-Monroe (6-6), Brigham Young (10-2), Alabama-Birmingham (2-10), Texas-El Paso (4-8), Marshall (3-9), Southern Methodist (1-11), Tulane (4-8), Houston (8-4), Army (3-9), and Rice (3-9).Jacobs4Heisman wrote:Tulsa would be the first good team we beat this year.
Losses: Oklahoma (11-2) and Central Florida (twice) (10-3),
Brigham Young was a good win. Houston was a pretty good win. Other than that, we are talking about a very soft schedule, and most of them were close. Overall, the record of the teams Tulsa beat was 44-76. That's a .366 winning percentage.
(This is, incidentally, some of the same math people have used to criticized Gregg Brandon. The irony is intentional).
Tulsa's a good team. The Falcons face a challenge here. But Tulsa is not a great team.
The question I have is this: How effective is Tulsa at running the ball? I feel pretty good about our secondary. If Tulsa is not a huge threat to run, I feel like this might be a decent matchup.
If we have to sell out to stop the run, then I think we might be toast, Boston College style.

Not at all. I'm optimistic about our chances. It's just not hard at all to see why the talking heads would go with Tulsa. They're the sexy team in this matchup.1987alum wrote:... thanks for putting the lemon in our lemonade!!!Jacobs4Heisman wrote:Tulsa would be the first good team we beat this year. Those fools couldn't name 3 players on BG or Tulsa. I'd normally agree about finding something to use for motivation, but predictions from such "experts" are seeped in too much ignorance to matter.BGSUFootballFan wrote:on Bowl Mania tonight, they all took Tulsa as a virtual "lock" to beat us. I don't know much about Tulsa, but I would think we have a pretty darn good shot at winning this game!
Now if Dave Ruthernberg or Nick Gerogosian picked us to lose, it'd be a different story.

You know, I was thinking that you were a total idiot for the arguments that you are making about GB, but I have to take all of that back. Has anyone notified the local police about this "Golden Hurricane" character. I don't know, but he looks like a child sex offender to me.Bleeding Orange wrote:There is absolutely nothing sexy about this:Jacobs4Heisman wrote:Not at all. I'm optimistic about our chances. We lost at UTEP. It was a heart breaker. That's our only really bad loss.Schadenfreude wrote:Tulsa's wins: Louisiana-Monroe (6-6), Brigham Young (10-2), Alabama-Birmingham (2-10), Texas-El Paso (4-8), Marshall (3-9), Southern Methodist (1-11), Tulane (4-8), Houston (8-4), Army (3-9), and Rice (3-9).Jacobs4Heisman wrote:Tulsa would be the first good team we beat this year.

We have a 1,000+ yard rusher in Tarrion Adams and a couple of other backs that have had 100 yard rushing games in Williams and Clay. We aren't a great running team by any stretch of the imagination, but we have beat some teams with the run.
Adams will run on this play around the tackle a lot -- I suspect you guys will be ready for it. Williams gets the ball on a lot of delays. He's also started some games over Adams.
Smith is a pretty good runner, too, though not particularly fast. He is a tough son of a gun, though.

Look, I'm all for making fun of mascots -- but, calling anyone a sex offender is way out of line.
We've pretty much agreed never to discuss our mascot on our board ever again. They've tried to change it, but the alternative was way worse.Globetrotter wrote:Speak for yourself...GrrrrBleeding Orange wrote:There is absolutely nothing sexy about this:Jacobs4Heisman wrote:Not at all. Here are some great names for the mascot I've heard:
"The Golden Carrot"
"The Michelin Man with Jaundice"
