Every other team we've gone against this year has also seen a spread offense before. Our version is unique. We don't do the screens that Tech runs or the run and shoot that Hawaii runs. This is a little more all over the place. Pretty much everyone we've played this year has said they've seen this before and then they come away saying "No we haven't."Dayons_Den wrote:It matters because our staff has been exposed to your style of offense while your OC was writing passes to get 16 and 17 year olds out of detentionGold* wrote:I didn't know that what happened in '01 or '02 would matter now. The M.A.C. isn't a "little Big Ten" anymore as our defense has played against similar offenses, we won't be starry eyed when you throw a ton and spread out the field to run.
Paul Smith's TD/INT ratio and yards are nice but they aren't 2004 GMAC Bowl MVP Omar Jacob's 41-4.Our staff is experienced in defending this style of offense and yes the numbers are very impressive but not in a ratio or style that is completely alien to us.
Worried about tulsa's offense?
Tulsa seems a lot like BG early in 2005. Ridiculously good offense that could run the length of the field in two minutes, but with a defense that couldn't keep up and had to be on the field the whole time because the offense is so good. i expect Tulsa to move the ball at will for much of the game but for their defense to get worn out because they won't get a change to catch their breath when the offense scores so quickly. What we need is for our offense to play great early on so we don't fall behind. If we keep up, I think their defense will get tired faster than our defense.

The consensus out there seems to be that whatever team does better on turnovers and plays more physical has the edge -- of course, that's always the consensus.
I get the impression that neither team is particularly dominant against the run or all that physical.
Our o-line is small, in part because we need guys that can run to the next line of scrimmiage. They've played better than I ever imagined, but I suspect it's all smoke and mirrors and they are waiting to get exposed. The only team that really matched up against them all year was UCF and that really slowed down our offense, particularly in the red zone. They are lead by a guy who played defense for the last three years.

The game seems a lot like the last two games against Wisconsin. If BG can summon a tiny bit of defense, it could be enough.

Interesting. Our D is led (in part) by a guy who played offense the last three years.Gold* wrote:They are lead by a guy who played defense for the last three years.
