Like hammb said, it's hard to admit, but I have to agree with most of what Flipper said.
After seeing the offenses struggle so much, I have to wonder if it wouldn't be better to go back to the first unit all playing together. Just didn't look in-synch at all.
The offensive line struggles were not surprising. As Flipper pointed out, two guys expecting to see significant playing time sat out, and of course we are missing three seniors from last season. I've stated my concerns regarding our lack of recruiting in this area, so I won't reiterate that. I hope I am wrong, but I will not be surprised if this continues doing the fall.
Another concern that I would like to point out, having shared offensive coordinators, one in charge of the running game and one in charge of the passing game. Obviously the offense stunk it up Saturday. Could be a lot of reasons for that. But I am concerned that not having one guy in charge of the offense is going to be a problem. Having two OCs is like having none. That is, no one is really in charge. How does one guy over rule the other? Is Brandon going to say call a running play, and then that coach calls a play? Or he asks for a pass play and the other guy calls it? Certain running plays set up play-action passes. How is that coordinated? I'm afraid this system is wrought with issues. Again, I hope I am wrong, but I have concerns about how it will work out.
SPRING GAME REPORT(S)
Great point Warthog. Too many cooks in the kitchen is not a good thing, especially with how complex our offense is. From what I've been able to piece together, Brandon will be the playcaller, although I doubt if this has been officially confirmed anywhere. The dual coordinator titles probably relate to formulating the gameplan more than anything else.Warthog wrote:

USC had a mess on their hands a couple years ago after Norm Chow left. They had their then-offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin up in the booth calling the play. Simple enough but for the fact it had to be relayed down through "Assistant Head Coach" Steve Sarkisian, who supposedly had the authority to change the call. Of course, it all went through Pete Carroll as well, who had veto power over both of them as the head coach. Things cleared up when Kiffin left, but it's not a coincidence they haven't won a NC since Chow's departure.
