yeah, i was with metz at fricker's and i will not be going back there for another game.
until this past weekend, they'd always done a nice job of showing the BG games on the bigger TV and the other games on the smaller ones (even when schools like OSU were playing at the same time). but... this time, they allowed the OSU fans to take over so i'm done going to that place. no more fricker's for me!
does anyone know of a good place to watch BG games in BG? (how lame is it that i have to ask that question...?)

Based on that a partial defense is too nice. He sounds like a p.Metz wrote:In the manager's partial defense, he did go in to the one room on the east side and acted like he was going to change the station, but then looked at the 5 osu fans there at the time and asked who they wanted to watch (I don't know why when they were all dressed in red and gray). He heckled them for a bit, seeing if they could pronounce Bowling Green after finding out they went to school here at BG and asking why they weren't cheering on the Falcons.
Then he laughed a bit and left the room. When the rest of my group showed up, we moved in by the corner of the bar and watched on one of the smaller flat screens. To our surprise, it had no volume! So they turned on this tiny 10" TV in the corner by us with mono sound and cranked the volume up on that.
I think I'll be heading to Columbus to watch the BG games from now on. I assume if they show theirs here, maybe they show ours there...
I have had the best luck with BW3 or Jed's, but honestly neither is a really great option, AFAIC. I have not been to the BG BW3 when there was a conflict between OSU & BG, so my guess is that it might not be that great either. The Jed's is mostly smaller TVs, and again not sure if I've been there during an OSU/BG conflict.billchase2 wrote:yeah, i was with metz at fricker's and i will not be going back there for another game.

There are flat out no decent sports bars in BG. I watched at Jed's in Perrsyburg Saturday and it was okay, but they only have some flat panels on the walls, no big screens. They did give us a box that would pick up the sound which was pretty nice, although it was staticky so not that great, if it worked better it would be an awesome feature. I've watched a lot of BG games in the past at BW3 in Perrysburg as well and they do a great job. They've got enough big screens to put the BG game on one and still not upset any OSU/UM fans.
P'burg BW3 is definitely my #1 choice for NFL as well because they have so many screens you can watch pretty much every game at once.

First off, Fricker's food SUCKS big time. Second, after hearing this, there is no way in the world I will ever set foot inside that establishment again. Shame indeed.ZiggyZoomba wrote:This is a huge disappointment. And we wonder why there isn't more community support and why we don't have better attendance.
Shame on Fricker's BG!

There is an easy way to combat this...the Freaklings and I do it all the time.BourbonFalcon wrote:The bar then began playing hang on sloopy while everyone did the dumb O-H-I-O. It was a little upsetting being an alumni on campus during homecoming weekend that this crap happened.
When they get to the O H I O part, scream B G S U! Works every time. If the OSU fans get pissed, so what? Think of all the OSU fans that will be cheering for Ohio U this weekend when they do that O H I O chant.

The student body has the power to change the amount of community support by simply choosing where they spend thier money. This should be a major issue for all student leaders.ZiggyZoomba wrote:This is a huge disappointment. And we wonder why there isn't more community support and why we don't have better attendance.
Shame on Fricker's BG!
I don't understand BG grads and students caring more about OSU than thier own school. How can it be more rewarding to follow OSU?
Have a little more pride in your own, and you will find that bragging about that win on any given Saturday means a lot more when your talking about a school you actually attended.
Come join the fun in person!

My favorite thing about Saturday, aside from the win, was how much support I had in the streets of BG when I shut down chants of "O-H..." with "BG-SU!"Falconfreak90 wrote:There is an easy way to combat this...the Freaklings and I do it all the time.

Somebody even bought me a shot of Jack at Junction because I was wearing my brown CP jersey! Can't complain about that!

Good to hear. I know we can't stop every BG student that roots for OSU. However, as someone said earlier, Fricker's is where the "Falcon's Nest Coaches Show" is being held at.ZiggyZoomba wrote:For what it's worth... I have brought this thread to Greg Christopher's attention.
By all accounts, it doesn't sound like much of a "Falcon's Nest" to me. Time to shape up or find a new place to broadcast. It wouldn't be that hard to find a new home.
It wouldn't be difficult to deem your bar the "official BG headquarters". We get maybe 2-3 away games on TV a season. It might conflict with an OSU once or twice a year. No big deal, you could still have it on a small TV.

I just think it's a travesty that u can't even watch your own team in your own town without conflict. Granted, I'm not a native Ohioan, but I truly never realized how brainwashed people were over the Buckeyes while I lived there. I knew people were coo-coo for coco puffs over them (which annoyed the f__k out of me), but for the love of God...root for your damn alma mater. I know I've said it a few times before, but growing up in Philly (before my Dad got transferred to Akron/Canton) I was (and still am) a huge PSU fan. But, no matter where I am, if I have the choice of watching PSU or BG....BG gets the nod EVERYTIME.
I've never understood the whole,"well, I'm from Ohio, so the Buckeyes are the end-all-be-all of existence." S#!t, I was at least accepted to PSU and could've gone, but I chose BGSU. I think at least being accepted to PSU gives me more of a reason to still root for the Nittany Lions more than some dipshit from Ohio who barely finished high school, but roots for the Bucks because he's from Ohio. Sorry, just my opinion.

As a BG/OSU fan, I am finding it harder and harder to respect other OSU fans, especially ones that went to other schools. I have said before that I was raised on OSU, it's definitely in my blood...my dad went there, my aunt dotted the "i" and it's always been a part of my family. I went to Bowling Green though. They are my #1 allegiance. When they play each other, it's "Go Bowling Green!" and there's nothing that will change that...that being said, on September 13th, I'll be sporting the scarlet and gray to watch OSU hopefully beat the snot out of U$C. It's hard to respect OSU fans, especially the cocky, arrogant ones who do think that BG, Miami, OU and other schools in Ohio have no right to be mentioned in the same breath as OSU. Rant, done.

When I hear the "You're from Ohio, you should root for OSU" BS, I simply ask "Where did Desmond Howard, Elvis Grbac, Charles Woodson and Bo Schembechler come from and where did they play/coach?" How about Todd Blackledge? Raised in Ohio and played at Penn State....

There are going to be a lot of Ohio State fans at the game this weekend. Most of them are going to be here to root for us. Don't let the snobbery of some outweigh the fact that many are just fans of good football and that's what they're coming to see this weekend. You may have to put up with an o h i o or two and maybe even some of the music from the bux, but they'll be here supporting us. I guess we just need to flood the area with as much brown and orange pride as can be found and hope to convert a few here and there
Yeah right girl!
