No, we had the ball in our hands when the whistle blew. It actually blew as he started to run it back.

That's the way I saw it. I guess I'll have to watch the game again today to make sure.

That was some pretty bad home cookin but it didn't help! The officiating was badly one sided.
Mike,
since I'm still "learning" how to program my DVR on my DISH setup, the BG game DID NOT get recorded....any chance you can copy the tape for me and get me a copy? See you guys at the Minny game...plan to get there around 2 or so! Roll Along!!!!!

I was a high school official for a few years and there is nothing worse you can do than have an inadvertent wistle. The absolute worst. That official broke the golden rule, and it cost him a huge mistake. If you are able to see the various angles replay, you will notice that the one official was running with the wistle in his mouth. We were told a million times not to do that. Never have the wistle in your mouth. Let it hang then bring it up to blow, that way you you know for sure that you want to kill the play. That official knew instantly he made a mistake, that's why it was only a half tweet. I was so pissed when it happened. We were really robbed. But that's life. I also thought the 15 yarder was bs. Tiger Woods does that same move at the Masters, and no one says a word.

I was an official also, and agree entirely. The whistle needs to be out of his mouth, it's not basketball.

What he did was compound his mistake. Once he tweeted, he should have blown it hard and stopped the play right there. He needs to own up to the error immediately.

I had an inadvertent once in a JV game. Kid was making a running fair catch and his back was to me. I hit the whistle trying to protect the kid, and the ball squirted out. No choice but to go back and re-kick. It really makes you feel like a fool, but it should never happen in a D1A NCAA game.

Yeah, I coached flag football for a couple years, and I accidentally blew the whistle on an interception. I made the mistake of having the whistle in my mouth, and my mind told me to blow the whistle. I blew the whistle nice and loud, then realized I made the mistake, and then had the kids playing, the coaches, and the parents yelling at me. I was only 16 or 17 at the time, and the kids were probably 10 years old. Felt like an idiot, but couldn't believe the things parents were yelling at some kid being a referee getting paid minimum wage.
