Minnesota is gonna be coming in with a GIGANTIC chip on their shoulder. This game comes down to whomever has the ball last. Sinisa hopefully seals the deal for us as the clock expires. BG by 1.
Pitt was a PHENOMENAL win, but they're still a big question mark. Yes, we beat a top 25 team. Was that 25 ranking justified? I think not. I know a lot of us here have bitched and moaned about pre-season rankings in the past, so let's not get full of ourselves because we beat a supposed top 25 team.
That being said, I still think we "eek" one out, but this is gonna be a nailbiter. Let's not forget how "Jekyll and Hyde" our Falcons can be.

Case in point for the Jekyll and Hyde reference...the first quarter against Pitt vs. the rest of the game vs. Pitt...but it was really only our offense that has a split personality...the only reason the D gave up the 17 points was because they were on the field for what seemed like the entire first quarter. Until the offense got going, the D was on the field non-stop, whether it was turnovers or 3 and outs, whatever...I am not one bit worried about our defense keeping us in this game!!!

out a win and not 'eke' out a win?
I honestly don't see how a naive, purple cartoon cat is going to help us win football games.

Odd resemblance?

This game with Minny will be a lot tougher than most of you think. We jumped on them last year and hung on. The first time you go against our offense it takes awhile to adapt to it. Minnesota finally caught on in the second half last year. They won't waste another half of football this time.
I also don't expect Minny to be conservative on offense like they were most of the game last year. Weber has come a long way as a QB. He made some nice throws down the stretch against NIU last week. If Brewster will open the offense we'll have a tough time stopping them. We'll see if he has learned anything from our game last year, last week's NIU game, or from watching the tape of our Pitt game.
Anytime time we play a Big Ten team I can't see how we're favored...home or away. Remember, they are playing four- and five-star recruits and we have one- and two-star recruits. Whether we want to admit it or not there is a talent disparity between us and Minny...not to mention a difference in depth as well.
Having said that, of course BG can play with the big boys. Hell, we proved that last week in Pittsburgh. Coaching, preparation, and desire play a big
part of any football game. While I can't go into any game against a Big Ten team and be confident of a victory, I'll root like hell that the Falcons surprise me again on Saturday.

I don't think the talent difference is that great. Remember most of the team are still Mason recruits, and he rarely ever landed 4 star recruits.Rollo83 wrote:This game with Minny will be a lot tougher than most of you think. 4 and 5 star recruits playing for Minnesota? Who? When?

4 and 5 star recruits playing for Minnesota? Who? When?
QB MarQueis Gray (Ben Davis HS) Indianapolis, IN
6-4/205/4.60
WR Brandon Green (Robeson HS) Chicago, IL
5-11.5/175/4.55
WR Vince Hill (Milford Academy) New Berlin, NY
6-0/185/4.48
QB David Pittman (Pasadena) Pasadena, CA
5-11/190/4.50
CB Traye Simmons (College of the Sequoias) Visalia, CA
5-11/180/4.40
BG has had a total of four 3-star recruits over the last 4 years! The rest are all 1- and 2-star recruits per Scout.com.
Now I know that recruiting ratings can be a subjective thing. But it illustrates the fact that even the bottom Big Ten teams recruit a different level of athlete than MAC schools do. That's not being negative...just being realistic.
While I think we can compete with Big Ten teams, I will never go into a game thinking we'll win hands down...let alone dominate or win by two touchdowns as some are predicting here.

Hill and Gray aren't on the team (Gray may be in time), and Green and Pittman haven't played a snap yet. If you look at previous years you will only find a handful of 4 stars. Brewster is changing that though.Rollo83 wrote:2008 Minnesota Recruiting Class 4-Starsbgsufalcon24 wrote:Well thanks for your analysis, mr. negativityRollo83 wrote:This game with Minny will be a lot tougher than most of you think.
