Most of the weak sisters have already made changes in the past couple of years.

Does Buffalo have a coach?

If NIU falls short again this year, I might start questioning if Joe Novak is the guy to deliver a title to Dekalb. The repeated discipline issues at UT warrents, IMHO, a strong look at Amstutz' status.

He clearly should have been far more aggressive in dealing with this fall's off campus brawl that resulted in a UT student almost being killed. He limited his response to the kids charged by the police knowing that there were far more players actively involved.

How long has Hofner been at Buffalo? Long enough to have an ulcer, for sure.

As much as we gripe about Imstufft, Toledo keeps winning and, barring an NCAA investigation, I don't see him going anywhere. Novak brought NIU back from the brink and, once BG dispatches Toledo, will have put his team into the conference championship game (which they'll likely win) and, hence, a bowl game. Doubt that he'll go anywhere, either. Miami's set, unless Hoeppner heads to greener pastures.

ohio U has a new president who has no compunction about cleaning house in the "front office" staff or in athletics. Was not a surprise.

Novak and the doggies are GOING DOWN to the Hurons, 1987.

In the unlikely event that the Huskies should lose to EMU and therefore blow a West title and a bowl bid, I could see the Huskie faithful raising some doubts.

I agree with you that Amstutz is safe. That alone is reason to criticize UT.
Coaching at the collegiate level is supposed to be about more than wins and losses. 'Stutz appears to be running a very loose ship (to be charitable) up there in Toledo

As posted elsewhere - Imstufft's loose ship --> Image

Of course, I hope the Hurons win, but I honestly don't see that happening. If it does, I would have to wonder about Novak's future. There are a lot of schools that could do a lot worse than Joe Novak.

They did. Darnell is gone. The announcement came on Monday, I think. There are strong rumors that Bob Pruett will hire him.

Speculation of this sorts is always good fun so here we go . . .

If OU wants to step up recruiting efforts to get better athletes for the spread that Knorr miserably tried to install look no further than WVU staff. Rich Rodriguez and staff have recruited very well down there and run a similar scheme. No way in the world do they touch Rodriguez or his $2 Million dollar buyout, but maybe a coordinator from that staff could jump across the river? OU could also lure recruits to test-drive cars in the hills of southeastern Ohio and that search would find them a capable replacement in Columbus on Coach Tressell's staff where I hear they are good at that sort of thing. I think that RB coach Tim Spencer has ties to the area and that could be a guy in the running. I'm looking foward to other speculation . . .

After checking out the Bobcat Attack.com or whatever it is . . . There are some folks with some high hopes . . . WOW

Mentioned:
-Ron Zook
-Bo Pelini, Oklahoma DC
-Bud Foster, Va Tech DC

The most reasonable names are the head coach at Georgia Southern b/c of ties to Jim Grobe and that staff and the usual OSU mentions.

OK, about NIU, Novak's not going ANYWHERE. Sure their fans might be frustrated a bit by their minor shortcomings, but let me note two things.

#1. Who even knew (nationally, hell even regionally) about NIU football before Novak showed up? It would be like us firing Brandon for not getting the MAC championship.

#2. Most students and Alumni from NIU are from the Chicagoland area, and trust me, what NIU is doing IS succussful from our point of view. Remember, excluding the Bulls in the 90's, the last time the Bears won the Super Bowl was 85. Last time the Hawks won the Stanley Cup was in 1961. World Series victories? 1917 for the Sox, and 1908 for the Cubbies. Remember, we're the ones that kept Dave Wanstedt around with the Bears for 6 years, while racking up an "impressive" record of 41-57. Jeff

Option, Bo Pellini might not be so far fetched. He is an alum of Ohio U's prestigious sports administration program and i believe he is from Youngstown originally. If they are willing to pay, I wouldn't be overly shocked to see it. He at least warrents a call

Spencer is not the RB coach at OSU any longer. The current RB coach, and this is something that pains me about Coach Tressel, is Jim's brother Dick Tressel.
