We can potentially get the MAC Championship game without much of a challenge because the East is weak. This is a great opportunity for the Bowling Green football team to get back to the MAC Championship game and end the title drought that has been upon us since '92. If it takes working through a watered down MAC East, so be it. There won't be an asterisk in the media guide, or on the stadium sign, or on ESPN if we are able to capture a title, I'll take it!
I'll say this. The team must not look at the East Division records this week. They shouldn't be satisfied with 1-1. We need to stay aggressive. To be sure of our path to the title game, we need to beat all 5 mac east teams we play. One team is down, we've got another coming this weekend, and 3 more after that. If we beat all 5, there really isn't a scenario on the board in which we get left out of the title game, unless Akron wins out and we lose to NIU and Toledo. That's probably not going to happen, so the simplest task is to beat the other east teams.

It's been 15 freakin years since we won the MAC. Waaay too long for a proud program like BGSU and I, for one, am simply tired of watching other schools hoist that trophy at Ford Field.

Let's go back a few years...remember when BG was in the West and had to deal with NIU and UT while the East was pretty weak? Do you think Marshall in 2002 and Miami in 2003 & 2004 were worried that Buffalo, Akron, Ohio and Kent State didn't put much on the field? I highly doubt it.

It isn't BG's fault the West is the better division at this time...we play the teams on our schedule. I don't care who is next...just win the next game. IF we take care of business, we'll play for the MAC title. That was what I wanted more than anything going into this season.

It's payback time Saturday.

Excellent collection of sporting cliches, all captured in one paragraph. Nice work, Freak. You should have been a player! You would have been a great interview. :-D

Bingo. What's the down side?

I'll take a division title however we can get it.

Agree completely. Nobody will remember in 3 years how terrible the division was when we won it.

So we're all in agreement that if we don't win this craptastic division with this particular team, the entire coaching staff should be canned and/or flogged mercilessly at the end of the year? :)

Therein lies the rub. I have no problems winning a bad division. I don't have a problem boasting about it either.

That said, if we somehow don't win this division it would be another black mark on the resume of this coaching staff.

Remember last year when the East was supposedly so inferior to the West?

Well, the conference winning percentage of the teams in the East last year was 51% while it was 49% in the West. So if you count the championship game, the winning percentages were exactly 50% for each division ;)
