Temple was a mistake, especially as a football only member, the MAC had the power to negotiate the best terms available and they got to excited with the possibility of MAC coverage in Philadelphia.

Unfortuantely, Philly is a Pro town first and foremost.

The MAC needs to be thinned, there are too many of the same types of school that are too close together, and some schools just aren't committed to being competitive.

Temple should be replaced by Western Kentucky in my opinion, it fits more geographically. Also, there are rumblings at Cleveland State about adding football recently, they would be a nice all sports MAC addition in the future.

This is smart. I'm glad to see we are thinking smart.

They have more television sets in the East, so that's where we should go.

Why? Cleveland has alot of media markets and would be the largest MAC city(minus Philly). They would more then likely play in Cleveland Browns Stadium. It would hurt BG recruiting though if they added a program.

Nobody in the Cleveland area cares about Akron and Kent State, two programs literally right down the street, what makes you think that anybody would care about CSU football???

New Name for CSU?

Post by Class of 61 »

Don't know if any of you know THIS about the CSU thing...but the PD had an article a day or so ago re: CSU becoming>>>> The University of Cleveland.
Supposedly this is because too many people (according to the Pres.quotes in the article) view CSU as a Community College, similar to Columbus State and Cincinnati State (I didn't even know there WAS a Cincy St.)...both those schools ARE Community Colleges and CSU wants out from that viewpoint...Also mentioned the desire to add FB to the program. They WOULD be a good addition in basketball and soccer...football? doubtful.

UCle/CSU in the MAC would be an AWFUL idea for football ... for now. Having three teams in the Northeastern corner of the state would make one of them really falter for recruits and thus crumble the program. And, just the idea of taking a brand new football program and making it compete in a level a bit over its shoulders for its age sounds like a bad idea ... on the other hand, UConn jumped from 1AA to the Big East, along with some national rankings, very quickly, so there is hope that Cleveland State could jump from no program to mid-major 1A quickly if they come up with a good coach.

Yeah, but UConn was already nationally recognized thanks to basketball. I don't think you can really compare CSU to UConn. Just my opinion, feel free to criticize :)

Come to think of it. Does CSU (13th grade) even have a mascot? Vikings is my guess. CSU in the MAC....that's a funny thought.
