I think many fans will be at high school playoff games also. I know I will. Why would the MAC want to compete with Friday night High School football?

Avon's not anywhere near BG. That's like saying that Strongsville won last weekend to move on. (They did BTW :-D , Go Mustangs!)

From Sandusky west to the state line, and from Lima northward to the state line, who's still left?

Well you said "Any teams from this area" and your Location says "Strongsville." Avon is in the same general area as Strongsville.

Whoops, meant the general BG area, not Strongsville. There's tons of teams still in the mix in NE Ohio, but that's not relevant for our Friday night football attendance problem.

I'm looking into getting away from work early, but it isn't a priority.

If the goal is to put as many butts in the seats as possible, they are failing miserably........they meaning not just BG but the MAC as a whole. Guess thats why we are doomed to forever be a mid-major. :x
Same whining every year, and every year the attendance for that game is great. The numbers have shown over the years the game draws great attendance on that day.
Point taken, I just hate being called a whiner!!!!! What gives you the right???

2007: game was played friday the 23rd
Did you think to check the calendar before you posted that?

Also, the game at BG has been played on Friday after Thanksgiving for several years now. The 2005 game was on a Tues or Wed before and the games at UT generally have been on Tues or Wed before. So, which date do you think has a better chance of students attending? Tues, the day classes are done before a long break and the students want to head home? Wed? That would be worse, wouldn't it? Friday, after the students have put up with their parents for three days and want to get the hell out of town again?

Might want to look up the attendance for these games as well. We seem to have this discussion every year and every year we look at the numbers and realize the games played on Friday have the best attendance.

2006: game was played tuesday the 21st
2005: game was played tuesday the 22nd
2004: game was played tuesday the 23rd

So ya the attendance may be good over the years but that is because the game is played the WEEK BEFORE thanksgiving. There is no way a bunch of students are going to trek back up here on the day after thanksgiving just to watch us play football. And the game time is, get this: 3:30PM!!! You guys are saying the buffalo game is bad scheduling, but the afternoon after thanksgiving isn't? Especially for a rivalry game?!? I think that is worse. Alot worse. And its disappointing because now i can't watch the BG/UT game, first time in 4 years!!!!
Not exactly the brightest move to use data that doesn't support your ideas. Last year Friday the 23rd was the day after Thanksgiving. They even kicked off at 2:30 last year.

Attendance Figures for games in BG
1999: Game played in Oct.
2001-Friday Nov 23rd, day after; 26,483
2003-Saturday after; 29,724
2005-22nd, Tuesday Before; 17,438
2007-Friday after, 18,926

So recap, BG-UT games played in BG since 2001 have drawn better when played after Thanksgiving. In fact the only years played before were 04,05,06. 2 of those were in Toledo. And in Toledo the games played both before and after Thanksgiving draw closer to 25K. Actual numbers are such a bitch when they don't support personal opinions. To reiterate Hammb's point, this isn't a big deal

I just know that we hear this whining every year and it doesn't seem like it really effects student attendance. At least not at the games that are played in BG. I remember hearing it back way back in '01 and that was probably the best student section crowd I've sat in outside of the '03 NIU game.

I got to campus in '98, and it seems to me that the student support has not really fluctuated that greatly by holding the UT game on the Friday after Thanksgiving. On years when student support has been good all year that continues for the UT game. If it was a poor year, it's stayed pretty steady. As Warthog mentioned the Tuesday before Thanksgiving has also been pretty common and generally draws about the same as the Friday.

FWIW, I believe that '03 game was originally slated for Friday, but was pushed to Saturday to appease ESPN.

Personally, I think the Friday afternoons work great for the UT game. Nearly everyone is off work (sorry retail workers), and it gives you one last fall day to tailgate. For whatever reason the UT game is usually the coldest day of November whichever day they play it, so late November is the only time I think I prefer afternoon games over evening.
