What in the heck is this ?
Band is a class, football is not.
BTW I am actually flattered that people are putting up such a ruckus about the FMB not being there to give the pregame concert. I honestly hate doing it, and the football players never seem to care when they walk by. But, apparently it means a lot to some people, so more power to you!

The team always has the mp3/dvd/iPod thing going on as they walk past.
When Meyer did it, it was a new thing, seemed to mean more than it does now. Now it comes across like a formality.

Apparently BG football has gotten so bad that we've resorted to bitching about the band. Ya'll bitch with they play, ya'll bitch about what they play, and now ya'll are bitching about when they don't play.
The Marching Band and the Football Team, despite popular belief, are NOT joined at the hip. They are two separate inanities that utilize the same field. The band didn't even start playing their pre-game concert at the stadium until a couple of years ago (either '05 or '06, don't remember). Before then it was held over in the Field House. Personally, I liked it much more over there. I have never liked it at the stadium. And while they're not doing their Pregame concert, there will still be a pep band there to play Forward Falcons, Ay Zig et al when the team shows up. So there won't be a total absence of the band.
Please, for the love of Chief, STFU about the band already. The band is one of (if not) the largest student organizations on campus. They are by far the most passionate group on campus, about band, the football team, and BGSU as a whole. I have little doubt that we have the best band in the MAC. We easily have the best band in the state. We undoubtedly have one of the premier bands in the country. This group, both past and present, do everything they can to support the team. Sometimes, however things work against their favor.

I will disagree with this statement. It means a lot to the players that the band is there to play during the walk. Yeah, they have their Ipods/mp3 players going but believe me they miss you when your not there. They love the fact that your out there supporting them and they love to see huge crowds of fans lining the sidewalk. This will be my last pregame walk and I would love for the full band to be there. I know I will miss them.Zig wrote:Band is a class, football is not.

Don't let the opinions of a few people cloud your mind, most Falcon fans love the band and enjoy having them at the game. They are an awesome band and add so much to the gameday experience.

Spart - only your last walk as a player's parent!Spart43 wrote:I will disagree with this statement. It means a lot to the players that the band is there to play during the walk. Enjoy!
The last home game, I did not see a single football team member wearing headphones on their walk in. The FMB moved forward so that we all were right up against the sidewalk so they would've had to go deaf listening to their music if they could. I can only hope that this is something that will become a standard thing next year and that the seniors enforce it.NWLB wrote:The team always has the mp3/dvd/iPod thing going on as they walk past.

While they are not joined at the hip they do share a common experience and should try to get some post-season bonding to prepare for a more "together" season next year. I think they should have a get together after the season, maybe grill food over a fire. They could call it the "Bonfire of the Inanities". God, I'm sorry, Euph- I just can't let it go.....goofyeuph wrote:The Marching Band and the Football Team, despite popular belief, are NOT joined at the hip. You're right, they are both part of the game day experience. I truly wish the FMB would be there. I geuss I just have a slightly different point of view having actually marched. This morning I was having trouble sleeping, just getting over the flu, and generally in a pissy mood. I just lost it, and let loose.

inanity Definition
in·an·ity (in an′i tē)
noun
the quality or condition of being inane; specif.,
emptiness
lack of sense or meaning; silliness
pl. inanities -·ties something inane; senseless or silly act, remark, etc.
Etymology: Fr inanité < L inanitas, emptiness
OK, OK, I'm done! Really though -that one is a classic!
H20, I must say that that does kind of qualify for the FMB, at least for Friday as many people here appear that they will really miss us for the pre-game activities.h2oville rocket wrote:inanity Definition

I also want to say that like many (if not all) of you, I would love to have the FMB there for the pre-game activities because it really isn't a true gameday without them.
