Can't speak to his quality as a potential HC, but he is a great guy. Used to come to my football practices all the time back when I was a kid. He was my coach's nephew.OptionQB wrote:Luke Fickell, OSU

Tim Beckman, OkSt defensive coordinator, former OhSt defensive coordinator who created teh 2006 defense out of thin air, and former BGSU defensive coordinator under Urban Meyer and Gregg Brandon. Big time head coach in the waiting.
And a dark horse pick - Zach Azzani, CMU wide receivers coach/assistant head coach, former BGSU wide receivers coach, turned Robert Redd, Cole Magner, Charles Sharon and Steve Sanders into legends, started the work on Corey Partridge and Marques Parks.

What about Stud down at LSU? I think he's a BG alum, phenomenal O Line coach for us, had no problem ever motivating the team, good offensive coordinator, or at least a guy to run GB's offense. I gotta wonder though, would HC at BGSU be a lower pay than O Line coach at LSU?

Chuck Martin is my guy.
http://gvsulakers.cstv.com/sports/m-foo ... uck00.html
Brian Kelly came from GVSU and had success at CMU and Cincinnati, was rumored to be the leading candidate for Tennessee until they hired Kiffin, I think this guy could have similar success.
I'll write more in depth about it later, but I wanted to get his name out here.

Now that we are officially looking for a new head coach, I hope Christopher can find the right guy for the job. My theory on coaching hires is that it's all about the interview, and it's up to the person doing the interviewing to recognize what it takes to be a good head coach.
Anyone can point out the name of position coaches/coordinators from successful programs and say they might make good head coaches, but success as an assistant does not guarantee success as a head coach. The skillsets required to excel at those positions differ greatly.
Sure you're going to start your search by pulling in guys from successful programs at the assistant level, but I hope Christopher does not let that previous success cloud his judgement. Let the interview be the deciding factor. Find the guy that has a plan on how to move forward. A guy that knows what it takes to build a successful football program across the board, and has a way to execute it. Don't worry what his offensive and defensive schemes are in the specifics, worry more about whether or not he has the leadership to turn those schemes in to dominance. Make sure the guy has a plan with regards to recruiting, if he has contacts to parts of our recruiting base all the better. Most importantly make sure the guy exhibits the leadership we so desperately need from the head coaching position.
Personally, I always hope for a young up & coming, fiery guy. Somebody that perhaps hasn't even had coordinator experience, but a guy that can sell himself and his ideals. A guy that knows what he wants to accomplish with the program, and has a plan to get there. HC experience is VERY overrated, and the only way we could get a guy with HC experience at the 1A level is if he was a previous failure. I have no idea who fits the bill of what we're looking for, because I don't think any of us can really have that sort of knowledge.

We agree once again. This post really reminded me of what the Rooney's did in looking for someone to take over for Cowher. There were guys with more experience and pedigree, but Mike Tomlin blew them away with his interviews, and stole the job from the more experienced and obvious candidates.hammb wrote:Now that we are officially looking for a new head coach, I hope Christopher can find the right guy for the job. I really hope GC can find an energetic young coach, most likely a position coach from a school with a quality head coach he's been able to learn from. This is a really exciting time for BG football, as the facilites we've built can really take us to the next level along with "the right guy" leading the charge.
Roll Along!
J4H - you're describing Urban Meyer when we hired him, and we all know the results of that hire. I say we just need to find another Urban Meyer - an up and coming energetic guy who knows how to coach.Jacobs4Heisman wrote:
