So I'm guessing you're talking about track & field?

Yeah, I know your feelings on the sport, but I'll just go ahead and agree to disagree.
Referring, of course, to the disstaff side. Last I looked they played soccer, or football, the most popular team sport in the world. We did qualify a couple ladies for the NCAA regionals in track and field as well.

By and large I would have preferred BG's year athletically and would have loved to have had Akron's-just saying, from my perspective, there are no minor sports. There is only hockey which really doesn't qualify as a sport since its played on neither solid ground or in water but sort of on top of water and it makes no sense anyway (this is mostly for the benefit of Falcon Fanatic) ;-) ).

You have to love 'is a, isn't a' sport discussions..

My brothers take is it involves a ball (pucks count)..

My Definition is that it must require

1) Physical Ability
2) Mental Ability
3) Have a clear defined winner

There is no denying the fact that these are far & away the 3 most important sports any university fields. With that level of performance you're telling me that we were more than 272nd in terms of D1 universities?

Well maybe in BG, I bet baseball is just as important as WBB to many schools, as well as soccer and lacrosse to quite a few...I know soccer and larosse outdraw WBB in many schools on the east coast at least.

Okay, perhaps you're right and I mis-worded my post. Not EVERY school ranks those as the top 3 sports, but I think it's pretty obvious that on the whole of collegiate athletics those are the 3 biggest sports. They get by far the most airtime on major cable TV, and the most overall coverage.

Even if you want to throw baseball into the mix didn't BG win the regular season MAC title there too? As I recall the MAC requires you to field Football, Men's hoops, Women's hoops, Baseball, and Softball to remain a conference member. Of those 5 sports that the MAC has deemed most important we won 3 of the regular season titles. Yeah it's disappointing that we failed to complete the deal in the tournaments, but that doesn't changet he fact that we put together a pretty strong athletic year. Not great, but certainly one of the better years in the MAC.

I don't want to get into a pissing contest about which sports are more important to certain people. My point is simply that we had a fair amount of success in the sports that get the most media coverage, and the ones the MAC deems to be the most important. Yet, by this metric we are among the worst Athletic Departments in the NCAA. Given the evidence at hand I'd say this is a very poor metric by which to gauge an Athletic Department.
