Do football fans go to hockey games?
I go to all the hockey games, all home and most away football games, and try to hit a few basketball games.
Being so used to hockey, I have to adjust to basketball - how hard can it be to put the ball through the hoop when there's no goalie or people poking at you with sticks?
Noticed Coach Brandon and sons stayed for the whole game Saturday night.

All is for the best in this best of all possible worlds.

"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

As I said on the hockey board, I used to be really big into going to the games growing up. My grandma had two season tickets, section C front row right above the stairs coming up. Amazing seats! Once she got rid of the tickets I stopped going. $8 and now $10 i think got to be a little steep for my pocket during High School. I'm doing my best though to make as many games as I can over break though.
OU has the defending National Champion Club (ACHA) hockey team. But BGSU Hockey is definitely more exciting!
I encourage any students to go. It's free (obviously) and even if you don't know the sport it's easy to pick up and the games are always fun to go to! (even if you just go to heckle Pio and the other idiots in stripes.. it's still fun!)

BG Hockey is worth attending.
I remember growing up as a kid in BG and going to all the games with my parents, and each year heading up to the Joe for the tournament.. and of course, '84.
Looks like the team's back on the right track, too.. the tradition of BG hockey is alive and well with this team.

Oh yes. Trips up to the Joe are the most fun. I made it up there three times and there's no better experience. (the years escape me)
My favorite memory was the last time we played State up there. We went up 1-0 on Bieska's goal (Bieska or McConvey not sure...) State scored two on us to go up 2-1 into the 3rd. While we were trying to rally in the 3rd, all the Michigan fans had come in to watch the game after us and started chanting "Let's go Falcons" and "GO BG" with us. Sadly we fell just short. But as any of the veteran hockey fans will tell you, the experiences at the Joe have been great (minus the Michigan & LSSU blowouts...) This is all the more reason to go out and support the icers this year!!

Just going to take a stab at this, but perhaps because the arena has been a long standing asset to the community? With public skating and BGHS using the facility might link it better to the community than other sports.Flipper wrote:The hockey team always seemed to have the most "townie" support. That describes me, too.Flipper wrote:I couldn't vote...There was no choice that described me. I really like hockey, but don't go too often.
I went to games incessantly as a student.
Ever since I graduated, I've lived no closer than two hours from Bowling Green. I find it easy to justify that kind of a trip for a football game.
It's tougher for a hockey game, no single one of which are as important in the big scheme of things.
A friend and I have been talking about watching Bowling Green play Ohio State down here, though.
My guess? BG is a hockey town. Of all the youth sports, I think hockey gets a disproportionate (for hockey) share of palyers. I didn't grow up in BG, but even out in Elmwood we had a few kids that would come to school from hockey practice. There are a LOT of kids who pick up skates about as early as they can walk and are playing hockey shortly thereafter in BG.FalconKing wrote:Just going to take a stab at this, but perhaps because the arena has been a long standing asset to the community? The long tradition of BGHS being one of the most dominant HS hockey programs in the state doesn't hurt either. This fuels the love for hockey in the youth leagues, and continues to fuel the townie support of the college program.
IMO, BG is a hockey town. Oh they'll support a winner in hoops & football as well, but if you put a winner on the ice you can count on standing room only by the end of the season.

Buget is my biggest reason
I don't go to games yet. I'm already spending $9 bucks for mens b-ball and 5 now for ladies b-ball. So its tough for me to scrap up the money. If the hockey goes on a major winning tirade I'll probably go sometime.
