The Washington Post posted a story this afternoon that fills in a lot of gaps.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/ar ... Nov29.html

Summary:

The ACC is close to a deal that would send Virginia to the open Independence Bowl spot Krebs mentioned, probably to play Oklahoma State.

In this deal, the MPC Computers Bowl would let Virginia go if it can take a Big East team, probably Syracuse, to play Fresno State. That would put Connecticut in the Motor City Bowl

Bottom line: I'm guessing this leaves us with...

-- Motor City: Toledo (or Miami) vs. Connecticut *
-- GMAC: Bowling Green (or Northern Illinois) vs. Memphis
-- Silicon Valley: Miami (or Toledo) vs. Troy **
-- Las Vegas: Northern Illinois (or Bowling Green) vs. New Mexico or Wyoming
-- Fort Worth: Marshall versus Cincinnati
-- Hawaii: Akron (or Hawaii) versus Alabama-Birmingham

* After thinking it through, it may be that the Motor City prefers Connecticut to Syracuse, which is why the Orange would be available to the Boise bowl. I can see the logic. UConn fans will probably travel anywhere to see the Huskies' first bowl. Syracuse doesn't travel well as it is, and a trip to Detroit won't excite the faithful.
** Troy would be the only non MAC team left in the country to fill this spot unless Tulane or Hawaii win Saturday. That's my theory

Money hungry pukes! Making deals! I hate the bigger schools. In this scenerio, they have somehow managed to pit all the mid-majors against mid-majors. UCONN and Syracuse are glorified mid-majors. I thought maybe one of our MAC schools would get a shot at someone big. I guess not.

I thought I'd throw out an intriguing idea posed by a Central Michigan fan.

If the Emerald Bowl could be persuaded to send its Mountain West team to the Silicon Valley Bowl, it would solve a lot of problems for us. Perhaps the Emerald (versus Navy) could be the fourth MAC Bowl. Or, perhaps the MAC sends a team to Vegas and the Emerald finds another team that works better for them.

C'mon VEGAS baby!

I'm thinking I might actually be able to swing that game. Its on the 23rd, so only one day off work, and Vegas is usually a cheap flight/hotel. Plus it's VEGAS BABY! :)

The GMAC and Vegas pose scheduling problems for us. The GMAC would mean missing two days of school for Noah; Vegas means flying home on Christmas Eve, which is problematic because my wife is associate music director at our church, hence Christmas Eve is a "work day" for her.

* sigh * Dreaming of the day we're playing those games in the Dec. 29-Jan. 1 range. ... Someday ...

Dad, I don't think Noah has a problem with the GMAC Bowl.

Transfer:

As the obsessive-compulsive person that I am, I checked the school schedule and Noah's last day is Dec. 22. I don't remember getting out that late, but then again, I went to school when dinosaurs ruled the earth.

Anyway, that means travel on the 21st, gameday the 22nd, return the 23rd.

My lovely wife is actually talking to the school this morning ... Just in case we happen to get a bid some time today. :D

Maybe I should have said I don't think Noah has a problem missing two days of school for the GMAC Bowl :D
