Re: Importance of attendance this Friday
All I know for sure is that I am going to make sure that I have the day after Thanksgiving scheduled as off and then they'll move it and I'll be screwed!

Exactly. If anyone really thinks, given our recent past, that we'd get more than 5K for a Friday-after-Thanksgiving game against Akron with a forecast in the low 40's and rain/snow, you're smoking something. Heck, what if Friday's weather turns out to be Mud Bowl-ish or like the Buffalo game last year? With UT as the opponent, you're still guaranteed a decent crowd. 2003 should be a witness to that, it was muddy and damn cold that day.hammb wrote:I don't know, I think it makes a lot of sense to have it at the end of the season for the very reason you note. People would rather watch a game in 50-60 degree weather than 30-40. People would also rather watch the BG-UT game than BG-other MAC opponent. So yeah, if you move the game earlier in the year I think you'll get better attendance for THIS game, but you'll also have a late season home game that is a guaranteed stinker as far as attendance goes.

2005 is another witness. The game was held on a Tuesday that year, and my was it cold that night. I think it was 19 degrees at kick-off. But the game was very near a sellout (though the attendance was horribly under counted). And not only that, but aside from a small percentage of the students, virtually everybody stuck it out through 4 quarters and 2 overtimes.TG1996 wrote:Exactly. Oh and guess what, the weather forecast for Friday STINKS. High of 39 and rain/show showers. With that forecast and an opponent like Akron or EMU, 4-5k max.
