Re: I hate the BCS
Dont the individual bowls get to pick after tie ins are done?
Cant this be played out as a positive as in the team that wins this game claiming they are the national champion. Atleast now we are guaranteed one undefeated team.
I would have loved to see these two teams beat some AQs. But I think there are some positives.

Re: I hate the BCS
Totally agree. I think TCU can beat anyone in the country. This is complete BS matching these two fine programs against each other. It should be THEE game of the bowl season but, like others have said, I'd rather see Boise State and TCU smoke the "big boys". What are they so afraid of? I HATE THE BCS WITH A PASSION!!!!!!!kdog27 wrote:I think TCU is the best team out there, and I am a Bama fan.
Reminds me of when BG didn't get into the NCAA Tourney after losing to Kent State in the MAC Tourney title game. Who did we end up playing in the NIT? Butler. A nice way to eliminate one of the mid majors.

I was also initially upset at seeing TCU and Boise matched up together, but I don't think it is such a bad thing for reasons others have stated above.
Boise beating the 2nd or 3rd team from the Big 10 would not have "wowed" anybody since the national perception is that the Big 10 isn't that great anyway.
If TCU beat Georgia Tech, everybody would be saying "The ACC isn't that special. Their champ got handled by a mid-level SEC team and squeaked by Clemson twice. So now TCU has beaten three ACC teams instead of two - big deal."
Breaking up the traditional Rose Bowl match-up would have been compelling: UC vs Ohio State, TCU vs Oregon and Boise vs Florida.

Re: I hate the BCS
The winner of the Boise-TCU game should just declare themselves national champs. The school or local paper can say, and they have a right to use it. In the media guide and in interviews they could brag about being national champs, and it would show how stupid this system is. Since they are getting a couple of million for being in a big bowl go the whole nine yards and have rings made as well. This would really expose the gaps in the system (Not that they weren't exposed already). I think it would be funny for the team to win to start calling themselves national champs right after the game, and why not they went undefeated just like Bama or Texas. Heck even Cinci could join in the mix to if they win.

What would be even funnier is if they made national championship t-shirts and hats and they had them ready to go for both teams.
Cincy could do the same thing but they drink from the golden cow (isnt there a saying like that that I am totally missing) so they probably would not by in.

Great idea. There is no official NCAA national champion for DI-FBS, so why not? The winner of the BCS national title game is labeled the BCS champion, not the NCAA champion.

Re: I hate the BCS
I'll throw in my pair of Abraham Lincoln emblazoned coins (That's two cents for you Toledo fans). The BCS DEFINITELY put the Frogs and Broncos in the same bowl for a reason. First, it will keep those schools and conferences from whining about not getting a bowl bid. Second, they keep the big boys from being embarrassed in front of a live audience much like Boise State did to Oklahoma. What would REALLY be awesome is if the winner of the Bama/Texas game agreed to play the Boise/TCU winner when it's all said and done (I fully expect Florida to manhandle Cinci).
Unfortunately, you and I will never see a playoff system in Division 1-A. It will take new commissioners in all the BCS conferences who have advanced to such positions from a non-BCS school. But then, when they get there and see the money they will just think "Why share?" and the cycle will start all over again. It's a shame that this is the way it has to be but I don't see it changing.

Maybe it was to keep either TCU or Boise from kvetching about what team they got to play. Give one the better matchup or a clearly harder challenge to the other, and you effectively comment on which you think is better.
It was a lose-lose for the BCS, and I think it is entirely fair sending them against each other. They aren't playing for a title, and there it is.

It would have been awesome to see TCU vs Florida and Boise vs. Cincy. Instead we will never really know how good Boise and TCU really are.Falconfreak90 wrote:Totally agree. The BCS needs to be totally destroyed.

Re: I hate the BCS
Peope need to be upset with the Fiesta Bowl committe not the BCS for this happening, they're the ones who selected the matchup. If the Fiesta Bowl would've taken Iowa instead of TCU with it's first pick then we probably would've gotten GT vs TCU and Iowa vs Boise. Since the Fiesta Bowl had the last pick they essentially screwed themselves by taking TCU with their first pick because none of the other bowls were going to take Boise.
I know their weren't really message boards prior to the BCS, but with how much some here hate the BCS I can't imagine how bad you must've hated the old system. Back then teams like Boise and TCU had literally 0% chance of playing in these big bowls and getting these huge payouts for their conferences, let alone two playing in them in the same year. I'd love a playoff too, but the BCS is leaps and bounds better than the old system for the mid-majors.

I'll agree with you on ONE point only..re: Fiesta folks "selection process". But saying that this is better than the OLD system, simply because the BCS was FORCED to allow a poor non BCS team into the mix is a bit much. Be honest, if they hadn't been forced to change to allow a highly ranked non-BCS team in...do you honestly believe that Boise or TCU ...or Utah, Hawaii, Boise before them would've been "allowed" to compete if the BCS people hadn't been forced to do so?

Re: I hate the BCS
I don't really care how it happened forced or otherwise, fact is it did happen under the BCS system because of the way the BCS is set up made it possbile for this to take place. Under the old system all the top teams from each conference generally went to the same four bowls every year. With the BCS at first we had the national championship rotate sites which means if the National Championship game was at the Orange Bowl and a Big XII team was in it then the Fiesta Bowl lost a team that would've been in their bowl under the old system. Now they're forced to replace them with somebody like a Utah. Without the national championship game stealing teams away from other bowls that their conference had ties to it would've made it much more difficult and probably near impossible to make bowls give up their conference tie-ins. Now since 2006 we have a fifth major bowl which opens up two extra chances for mid-majors to get in, another thing that never could've happened under the old system. The BCS is by far better than the old system because it allowed these changes to be enforced. I really doubt we'd be seeing all these mid-majors in these high profile bowls under the old system, in fact I know we wouldn't because Boise for example wouldn't be playing in a major bowl this season under the old system or even in a pre-2006 BCS they wouldn't be.Class of 61 wrote:bgsukid,
