NATIONAL LETTER OF INTENT DAY - February 3, 2010
Re: NATIONAL LETTER OF INTENT DAY - February 3, 2010
It looks like a great class. Looking forward to the season.
FWIW, and my opinion not a lot, Scout Inc has BG ranked tied for 85 behind some other MAC schools Toledo and Ball State, interesting Boise is ranked 99th.

So now, the least expensive tix will be, what, $70 each?Falcon Commander wrote: PS - just heard tosu is RAISING their FB ticket prices by $7.00
Also, looks like Coach Clawson recruited the "State of Bowling Green" well. Most of these kids are from OH, MI and PA. One each from IL, WV and FL.

This does indeed sound like a good class. I hope August gets here quick.

The later commit from FL whom my Falcon Tropic guy was on TE/Athlete K Montgomery is a freakish type athletic guy. He dunks a basketball like I reach for the remote- very easily. Good hands and, as noted, runs extremely well. May be able to play more than one position. The other TE in the class T Beck is a real prototype guy with great numbers in catches and productive in the red zone. Big big frame. This East PA fellow might be quite a player eventually.
Our PA QB is a true winner- led his team to one big win after another all the way to the state title game where they lost a heartbreaker. Sharp and focused. Big strong tall guy who fits the system very, very well. I would compare him to a guy named Tyler Sheehan four and a half years ago- and he turned out to be pretty darn good! I think he has fantastic potential at BG.
Go Falcons!

One of my favorite days of the year.
Hats off to Coach Clawson and his staff on their hard work. Can't wait to see these young men in brown and orange!

Interesting that they only show BG with 23 commits....wonder how the last 2 kids will "fit in" and possibly raise the ratings.... OTOH, none of this means very much right now...we'll see better in 2-3 yrs or so who came out ahead.tiznow wrote:It looks like a great class. Looking forward to the season.

Boise being ranked that low probably has to do with them only signing 10 players.

And the fact that they lose a grand total of ONE Starter this year may also mean they don't have a lot of scholarships to give out.

Man, there is a ton of size and talent in this class! Although there is no way to ever really know at this point, if this truly is the fourth or fifth best class in the conference and even half of these kids fully develop at each school, how good could the MAC be down the road? Looking over some of these classes I'm seeing kids who are a lot bigger and faster than I can recall the MAC ever getting at one time. It's just my perception, but color me impressed.
Great job Coach Clawson!

bleed and 61, one of the keys in evaluating any BG recruiting class is who we beat for players. That often is a crucial or telling point as you examine recruits. Star systems from rating agencies are fine and some teams signing more players to cover acdemic casualties are all things to look for, but I think the teams who offered- and really wanted- the players who actually sign with BG is very, very telling.
To win the MAC, you better beat the MAC on many of the players you evaluate highly. Most of this class fits that bill in a positive way for BG. Take Bryan Thomas- fine DE prospect but perhaps not immediately recognized for what he is; a sack machine who was offered by all of MAC East and a couple other schools and chooses BG. Booboo Gates' story is well documented- UC gets a turn down as does most of the MAC including the boys up noirth. LB Charlie Walker is big and pretty quick. There is a reason Kansas, Indiana and several MAC schools wanted Charlie. RB Jamel Martin considers Col State and many MAC schools and heads to BG.
You can go right down the list and find us winning many, many battles. Doesn't mean we didn't lose a MAC battle. But for the players we evaluated highly, it appears we won way more than our share.

When Amstutz signed with UT he was called "The Snack Machine."
Haven't seen this mentioned yet, but it looks like Bill Durkin (no relation to DJ) has a goot shot to be the next offensive line coach:

JF,
If indeed this is true it seems like Clawson is reaching back again into his old coaching "buds"...guy was also at Richmond... Also interesting to me is how many of our coaches come from "smaller" schools...Perhaps this is typical as they also climb a coaching ladder...from D3 to 1-AA to 1-A etc. Guess it worked out for a guy named Tressel.

Re: NATIONAL LETTER OF INTENT DAY - February 3, 2010
Yeah...I've always respected I-AA coaches. They have to do a more thorough job of evaluation than BCS coaches do and don't have the 'brand name' school to sell to kids. Going to the MAC is less of an adjustment for them, and the success of programs like BG and Northern Illinois (where Jerry Kill brought his entire staff over from I-AA Southern Illinois) is bearing that out.
The Richmond/Hofstra pipeline is alive and well as Mike Elko (current co-defensive coordinator) coached at both schools and D-line coach Sean Spencer spent time at Hofstra. After they dropped football Clawson was supposedly interested in bringing in their former head coach if an opening arose.
