Re: MAC looks at expansion
Youngstown St. would further dilute what we already have..... There are too many Ohio schools in the MAC now. If the MAC were to expand, they need to expand into another state, another TV market and attempt to grow the MAC brand. There are enough potential customers to make the MAC a more successful conference. Expansion must be done in such as way to be financially appealing to the current members. After all, that does seem to be the main consideration these days!

I respect the sentiment, don't miss-understand. However personally, I just don't give a darn about if BGSU wins or loses to the FBS schools, it isn't why the team exists. Sure, I'd like to see them do well enough up against a team like Michigan, but my life doesn't end if they don't. When you have over 115 some schools playing a sport, there will always be the good, bad, and ugly. I don't fret much about the MAC dwelling low on the totem pole.Champ009kd wrote:Well stated NWLB, but I still stand by my points. I mean is 3/4 of the MAC is going to play like, and lose to fcs schools...

Re: MAC looks at expansion
and by the way SO FAR today, the MAC is hanging tough (mostly) with the Big 10. BG is losing but has been much more competitive after the first few series, Ball St. is getting throttled, but Central is tied with Northwestern, and Toledo is up 17 on Purdue. Buffalo is also tied with UConn.

I have to agree with NWLB. I'd rather see us cut football and pump the cash into hockey and basketball. NOT to say that I want to see that happen, but it would be preferable than falling into football obscurity.
Better than that, though, would be to build a solid program that competes for a MAC title every year, gets some bowl games, and makes forays into the top 25. The key to that, of course, is to find a talented coach who is committed to BG who will stay with the program regardless of offers from other schools. That's how Boise and TCU have built their programs, and it's how Marshall did the same throughout the 90's. Is Dave Clawson that coach? I hope so!
