Did Greg Christopher really play football at Miami?
Re: Did Greg Christopher really play football at Miami?
I still have a hard time gauging the quality of the job Christopher has done here...although I really couldn't care less if he did or did not play football while he was in college.
On the one hand I think he's done a tremendous job of fund raising for the athletic department. We've seen the top 2-3 donations in the history of the department during Christopher's tenure, and they've turned into things like the SEBO center and the Stroh center...both of which are facilities as good, if not better, as anything in the MAC.
However, there is no arguing the fact that the performance in the major sports has been pretty poor during his time in BG. Neither Orr, nor Clawson, have had immediate great success either. I think Orr is getting his last chance to stick around this season, and Clawson better start showing something this year as well, or the seat will be getting warmer. Along with the performance in these sports being poor, the attendance has been abysmal as well.
I'm pretty torn. As a fan I obviously want the teams to win, and the AD has to bear some responsibility for getting coaches in here who can turn these programs into winners. On the other hand Christopher has done a tremendous job fund raising and improving the facilities for football & basketball. I guess the best way to describe my feelings on him would be apathetic. If he leaves, oh well, if he stays, I won't cry.

Everyone loves a scandal- he never lettered per the Miami site and football isn't listed on his Purdue bio-just that he attended Miami (is that the same Greg Christopher?) Hey, I'll clutch at straws if it distracts people from Scooter's plea bargain!

The point is not if he played or not, but if he lied on his resume etc. Remember a guy named Tressel?

No s**t..."lied on his resume"? That's his press bio...not his resume. WHo the hell knows if he "lied" anyway? Are you sure that the rosters from over 20 years ago at Miami are accurate? I know ours are off sometimes...as are our participation logs form the game reports. And Jim Tressel? Really... the guy who rang up over 300 NCAA violations ...that's the guy who springs to mind when you want to question the veracity of a relatively minor detail from the AD's press bio? I get it, you don't like GC...but c'mon..this is incredibly petty.

yeah, this is why I added factman man to my ignore list, football went 2-10 last season and has a lot of things it needs to improve on this season, yet this is the hottest topic in the football forum

Tressell never lied on his resume - just forms that he signed and then submitted to the NCAA.
Now George O'Leary lied on his resume. Or rather, he was not completely factual with his past academic history.

This is ridiculous. I'm really sick of hearing one poster complain over and over and over again about our AD. Did he steal your lunch money in first grade or something?

Approximately 40 seconds of using Google yielded the Blade article from when he was hired which stated "he walked on the football team his freshman year but had to quit because of multiple concussions". Given those two facts, I don't think I would expect him to appear in too many private collections of Miami rosters.

If he was a walk-on (not a preferred walk-on), then he probably would not be in the printed media guide as they published those in late August and he probably started attending practices in mid-September.brewer wrote:Approximately 40 seconds of using Google yielded the Blade article from when he was hired which stated "he walked on the football team his freshman year but had to quit because of multiple concussions". At BGSU, students can attempt to walk-on to the team usually in mid-September (if they're not a preferred walk-on).
I doubt if Aaron Richardson is listed in our 2004 media guide. Not because he passed away, but because as a walk-on, he came onto the squad late.

...and spinning it as if there is some mass uprising against the AD.
What's gone unmentioned among his accomplishments is being chair of the WBB selection committee next spring and landing the 1st and 2nd round NCAA games at Stroh Center. The latter is no small accomplishment for a MAC school.

And let me add this, with the whole Tressel-Ohio State 'scandal', our shining moment of pride is that Bowling Green has never had a major violation. Does the AD not get credit for that? If you want to tear him down because team aren't performing on the field, let's also give him credit for fundraising, compliance, and academic scores.
